After school starts, maybe I can find some free time to work on a 5th Gear episode guide with a list of all features and the ordering of shows ;)

Oh, thanks for your proposition but I don't think it's worth spending too much of your time for making such a list. Just wondered if it was somewhere on the internet. I've made my own list of 5th gear and uploaded them to my wespace(I think you know the url :wink: ), if there's anything missing from yours I can try to send it to you.

A talk show you say ... pitty, but well we've got some good stuff to look forward too (turbo.fr).

The Z4 video is off 4th episode of 5th Gear series 2, it's one of the few episodes Jabba didn't cap. Tiff reviewed the hummer H2 in that episode as well. No, he didn't do any powerslide in it :D

You don't happen to have the whole episode ...
Just happen to be sorting out Jabba's 5th Gear caps last night and guess what I've found... the S2 PR4 of 5th Gear! It's only 58M so I can send it to you if you want.

As it turns out, the episodes airred on Channel 5 are different from the ones on the Discovery Channel. I compared old (channel 5) and new caps (discovery) of Jabba's and basically they're showing features in different order / episodes. Strangely enough, Speed Channel in NA seems to be showing the discovery channel edit :roll:


Akshay: I usually time record the shows using my TV Tuner to AVI. Then I have to edit the video and encode it to DivX/VCD/SVCD.

This is the TV Tuner I have, not the best but it works and doesn't break the wallet. There're much better ones out there.


draak: welcome back! I've been missing quite a bit of stuff too. Constantly running low in disk space and don't have enough time to catch up :( Time to pick up more blanks and start burning.

This is why I have almost given up on 5th gear from the discovery channel. They have screwed around with all the episodes which started to give me the mother of all headaches.

The most outrageous example of this was reviewing a red noble which at the time hadn't even been shownon the current series being shown
on channel five (it followed about three weeks later).

It would seem that channel five just give the discovery channel all their un-edited and sometimes un-used video footage and the discovery channel makes a new mutant show out of it.

Or that edit is the one channel 5 gives to other stations. Not sure about the one airred in australia but the version shown in north america on speed channel is exactly the same as the one on Discovery.

At least for series 1, there're only 8 episodes for the mutant edit. Were there 10 for the channel 5 version?

The documentary is a 3 parts series (an hour each). So it's about 45 minutes x 3 = 2.5 hours

I'm making svcd-dvdr for my own collection, but that'll take up approximately 3gigs. DivX is most likely the better option but that'll take ~750M still. Doubt it'll be a good idea to host it on yours and zippo's webspace... so, you'll have to wait for it to crash lands on someone's pc/server with lots of bandwidth :wink:

Todays AMS-TV had the new Mercedes CLS tested. What a beautiful looking new masterpiece by Merc this is :shock: But at yesterdays A-Class presentation at the local Mercedes dealer i took seat in a SL500 and now i know which car i want to own later :twisted:

Wow, what an AMS episode tonight! Featuring cars like the new Audi A3 sportback, A class and most importantly, the Porsche 911 GT2!! The GT2 was driven hard in the wet... if you think Exige video was cool, the GT2 one is even better.

OMG!!! There was an awesome new blue BMW M5 review on todays AMS-TV in Germany :!: It began with an breathtaking acceleration (I can´t describe this sound :shock: ) and later continues with some crazy driving on public roads and some more accleration :twisted: This colour is perfect for the M5, looks much better than silver. If you already liked the Exige and GT2 reviews then this is a must have aswell :!: You simply have to capture this one Alien :!:

Have both good and bad news...

First off, the bad news. There was no AMS this week since the time slot was pre-emptied for some "football memories" show. This is sort of common for the detroit PBS station during their membership renewal fund raising period but AMS should be back next week and the week after.

Okay, the good news. I recorded the Raging Bull episode of Rides as mentioned in previous post. A clip of Valentino Balboni's test drive has been posted to zippo's webspace.

Its on a local community channel, called Channel 31 (not cable, its free-to-air). They show AMS on Saturday afternoons and Monday nights....on Monday is a report on a tuned version of the new Golf. :D

Oh i forgot to mention: Last Sunday AMS-TV Germany tested the Lotec Sirius :shock: If you don´t know what that is here are some numbers:
6.0 V12 engine with 1334hp :!:
Torque: 1300nm
Weight: 1280 kg
0-60mph: 3.6 sec
0-120mph: 7.8 sec

This car is truly insane :!: You have to cap it when they show it in the US since this is the only review of this car to my knowledge :!:

:D It's nice that you've thought of me, thanks for this video. Those cars aren't the most exciting but I did my internship and had a chat (he shared the same room at my internship company) with the general manager of the company where they produce these cars. So I started growing interest in these 2 cars. IMO the smart is too much of a legobox looking car for me, the colt isn't too bad but not really my first choice.

Been having a bit of technical difficulties in the past few days so I haven't been able to cap anything. Windows screwed up when I was doing some hw upgrade :( Things are slowly getting back on track so there shouldn't have any problem capping AMS this sunday.

Just watched the new AMS couple of hours ago. Yes, the E60 M5 was featured. I've seen st-anger's rip and it's nice to understand what they're talking about. I'll post a vcd version of it very soon. This week's AMS got cars from both end of the spectrum, the affordable BMW 1 series and VW golf.. and the powerful (is 1200hp enough?) Lotec Sirius! Haven't been watching the american car shows much lately, so it's be just AMS for now ;)

It's allways nice to see a review of the new BMW 1 series. If it was me I would have chosen the A3 as the competitor though. Shock: the heavy FWD Golf is just as fast from 0-100kmh (8.9sec) and even a lot faster on a rolling start :shock: Didn't see that coming. I suppose the 120d might have done better, but still not a very good result for BMW.

That Lotec Sirius looks cool, futuristic even. Still have to watch the rest later.

Good news, my detroit PBS signal is back on! There's a stupid scrolling message in the bottom saying not everyone is getting the signal... still better than nothing ;)

Saw the F430 feature on another station (not TV) the other day, it's great! It seems like they took to the place where they tested the GT2. The driving isn't as extreme as the GT2's but it would be insane to do that in a ferrari on public road.

Anyhow, I've posted 3 clips from the show "Million Dollar Motors" on TLC on zippo and draak's webspace. There're other supercars featured on the show, I'll post them in the future if time permits.

First, a review of the 2005 Ford Mustang (not that great actually), second and best an all new High speed test at Nardo :shock: Cars involved: Golf R32 HGP Biturbo, Mercedes SL65 AMG ( :twisted: ), Porsche 9ff with more than 840hp, Brabus Maybach 57, Alpina B7, Audi MTM Clubsport and K500. Yea, I've been having problem with my audio on that channel lately, even on TV. With so many electronic devices in my room, it's possible that one of them is interfering with the signal.. or last lightning damaged the splitter. I got like a cm thick of extra (home made) shielding on my cables so there shouldn't be any interference unless it's outside my room.

Great nardo AMS video. That R32 is one crazy machine, can't imagine going at that speed in a hatchback! Thank you so much Phobo.

Just checked the schedule of AMS, next week's (or the week after for some) show will feature the M5 vs. CLS 55 AMG as well as the Ariel Atom 2. Will anyone be able to cap it? The PBS station I get it from is still doing the december plege run :cry: Can't really complain since they're showing couple of concerts I've been waiting for.... According to their website, normal programming will be back Dec 18, which means the next AMS I'll be able to cap is the one 3 weeks (Dec 19) from now.

The new Mustang GT is better then I expected. Most seem to like it, let's find out what AMS thinks...

The new Corvette is the first one since the Stingray that I would call pretty. And it's apparently not only the looks that have improved either...

Just watched the latest AMS episode. At the end of the show, it mentioned that it is the final episode of the AMS series. Looks like Detroit PBS isn't going to show any more of AMS :(

Looks like it'll be shown in other channels, just not on PBS. My guess is, there aren't enough people watching, consider the station is in Detroit, probably most people there aren't interested in non american cars. AFAIK, the english version will be shown on DW-World. Unfortunately, I dont get that channel so I won't be able to cap it :(

I could record some of the more interesting reviews.....but the quality wouldn't be as good as yours since I do it through a DVC. :wink:

The Lada vs BMW test just wants to proof if the BMW is really worth 80.000€ more than the Lada (It´s actually a 545i with complete equipment). If you ask me, YES it is! Who on earth would drive a Lada? It looks like a poor 80´s prototype that would never go in production if it was designed in Germany 8)

alien have you captured the clip about the marcos ts 500? so I won´t upload it because I think most in here prefer having the translated version =) and I also have captured and edited soo much stuff the last days (lambo murcielago roadster test, f1 docu 1977, ferrari racing days, small 911 turbo clip... all together around 700mb) that is waiting to be uploaded by my powerful upload connection ;)

I can't wait....especially the Murci roadster test and the Ferrari racings days should be great. :D
