About the B-Spec driver, mine was a nightmare at the ring with the CLK.. it would be usefull to decide before the start when he will have to pit (how many laps), because he basically was doing one too much, arrived at the pits with RED tires, went long.. and then for a good 3 minutes he tried to go THROUGH the wall... finally he settled for another lap.. obviously I decided to restart.. this time with the Minolta Toyota and for now it is doing well.. 15 hours into the race, probably 120 laps done, but I think he always come back to the pits with no more fuel

if any of you are wnating an older (pre 70') car tor ace in multiple tournaments then get the buick special. It doesnt cost much, and all you need to do is whack a turbocharger/supercharger on it (i forget which) and it has very nearly 1000bhp, it will absolutely murder anything else the computer cares to pit against it, and is just as quick as a modded DB9. (I have both)
Alas, i know cant play GT4 as my playstation vandalised itself a little while ago and went through 2 copies of GTA:SA. I borrowed a friends ps2 over the weekend but he took it back yesterday, so i now have the worlds best driving sim, and no means of playing it.

Instead of coding in some actual AI, they instead decided to code 50 different ways to hear a camera click in Photo Mode.
Yeah thats true. I kinda like GT4 but then again I kinda dislike it as much as I like it. They could have made this game very perfect if they took their time but because of too many damn fuck up's on their parts I guess they finally said fuck it just release the damn game.
I hope they release a 100% FINISHED version of GT4 rather this this bullshit 75% or 85% or whatever. But as much as I am pissed off about it I am still happy also.

We waited 4 years, and paid $50 - we are entitled to complain :)
The game really is a kickcass hot-lap game, and a second rate racing/driving simulator.. ;)
If they spent more time on the network/linked game configs, it would be the ideal 2+ player hot-lap game.
BTW, I figured out how to get the stupid B-Spec driver to do a good job. Give the little twit a Formula 1 car.
Even he/she can't screw that up.. :)

Do'h you got a point there. But you will probably be killing the others unless its an all F1 field so it wouldnt really effect you if you pitted every lap except alot of time wasted and way slow lap times.

My AI is working hard to get me that F1 car rite now (I know I said I gonna drive the 24 hour ring, but after the 4 hour endurance, I figured I will prolly shorten my life span if I do that 24 hours one purely on my own)
I know alot of ppl complained that GT4 has many flaws that it shouldn't have given the 4 years of developement, but to me it is still 50 bucks well spent. The physics engine clearly more superior than the one in the previous generations. The number of tracks avaliable far exceeds any other car games out there. I know I know, the computer AI is still stupid, and you cannot use ur own cars in arcade mode and the car tuning is still very lame (I wish they could really go the whole nine yards of listing actual parts for specific cars and not just some Sports, Semi-Racing, Racing grades). BUT (a big one) To me, just driving cars like M3 CSL or the Opel speedster around the ring with the logitech steering wheel already made me feel I got my money worthed, you can say I got low expectation or that I am a sucker for PD but I am a happy customer.

quick question before i actually buy one in the near future.... is the Zonda actualy barable handling wise now? I think it was bugged in GT3 with massive understear and racing brakes never made a difference from stock... is it still the same in GT4?
Plus does anyone want to explain the "original" turbo and suspension?
Seems to be the original turbo gives slightly less power, but all over the rev range compared to the stage 4, but what about the original suspension? :S

At a staggering 5% complete, it would seem I am not playing the game as much as some of you, however last night I got the Mugen Motul Civic. It's my new 'favourite' car, sounds fantastic, MUCH better than my 217hp EK TypeR! :mrgreen:

I've only done about 16%, but I prefer to take it slowly instead of finishing everything too quickly :wink: I have some nice cars already (SL65, M3 GTR, CSL, Yellowbird.....) but still have alot to get......this game will last me for years hopefully :D

i am at a 33.~% so far. The physics of the game are nice, the graphics are really good( more vivid colours than GT3) but i wish u could powerslide more like in the previous game. Now its a bit harder to keep on sliding on a straight line. Its like the weight of the car pushes the body on the other side really brutally and u have to be really gently to manage(or not) and keep it sideways. That is the only thing i miss from GT3. APart from that GT4 is everything i expected it would be, FANTASTIC.
As soon as i get my digital camera back i will try and upload some videos. :mrgreen:

^^^ Ah - this answers why when you use the "all cars" cheat, you get an all white Ford GT. This car is then available without the stripes in white, yellow and blue (hopefully).

Ah dang.. me too I use GT on my NTSC console LOL! I guess there should be an NTSC version too...
How does the MaxDrive work? Do you need to bbo the PS2 to a special software CD first? Can you transfer any file from PS2 mem card to USB stick? Or only recognised file types of the Boot CD?
Yes as far as I know, you put the CD in and it loads a special screen where you can move stuff from the mem cards to the USB drive
and you can transfer any kind of file, even the configuration one Dan told me ;)
OK - so same theory as the SharkPort - only the Sharkport is a USB cable link, so you are kinda limited to transfering to and from PC.
The MaxDrive gives you the option of "standalone" transfer to the USB drive, then plug into PC and transfer.
Good to have another option then.

To those of you who used the R8 to win the GT championship in pro events, how modded was it? (I'm afraid of the Sauber, and I don't wanna lose any races)
Just to clarify though - you can't play the Replay File you download to the PC... can you?
I didn't know there was a GT4 Replay app for the PC. As far as I knwo you would need to upload the replay and transfer to your own PS2 and simply watch it in GT4.
Or - capture the replay as a video file to the PC.

Hmm. This replay business could get quite complicated. I might try and use a PS2 emulator and some video grabbing s/ware. It might not work but it's a project for the weekend.
I'll give it a try, I picked up a Maxdrive this evening, so expect some piccys in the other thread soon, at least...
I will capture some movies this weekend. Right now I have my B-Spec idiot doing the LeMan 24hrs for me... then tomorrow he does LeMans II - then the 'Ring 24hrs... :) Got him doing it in the F1 car.

Uhm - not to be too unkind, but those of us that have been capturing videos (part of what JabbasWorld is all about) know this already... ;)
How do you think we get VHS tapes captured to MPG... :P
In my mind, it would be easier to simply transfer the repla file to the PC, and upload it to a file service and then we can just down load em and play ourselves.. :P

If you don't have or don't want to go to the expense of rigging up an analog video capture setup - just uplaod the actual replay files to some place and I'll grab em and capture em to video.. :)

5hr hours into the LeMans 24 hrs my MiniMe is almost 100 laps in, 6 laps up on 2nd place and seems to be pulling into the pits every 5 or 6 laps.
I have him set on 5 (Push) and Overtake... he is doign pretty well in the Formula 1 car.
I also went nuts and captured 45 minutes of video... ;)

I have him set on 5 (Push) and Overtake... he is doign pretty well in the Formula 1 car.
Do you need to have him on 5? You can probably get an extra lap in on 1 or 2.
Probably not - he is lapping these mofos every 4 laps... hehe - but it is after all a race, so 5 it is.
The AI is pretty dim-witted - he rams everyone before he passes them... would it be that hard for the AI B-Spec driver to detect the car in front of him and so down??

B-Spec points are only about 850. I noticed that if the car he is in is significantly faster than the opponents, even on 3 he rams them - then slows, then passes. It is related to the fact that PD doesn't code AI, just drivers than follow the racing line - bunp into something, then go around.
You can see the same thing happens when you race and the AI tries to pass you - they ram you first, since this appears to be the obstruction detection PD use... ramming.. ;)

8000+ B-Spec points? How many freekin races have you B-Spec'd? My guy has done all the Endurance races - except the 24hr ones... and has less than 1000 points.
Does the car make a difference? Maybe the fact that he has done most races in the F1 car is why he has low points?
BTW - I am VERY dissapointed - I checked in on the LeMan 24 hours... 7 hours in - and it is still day light.
SO I am guessing it never gets dark. What a crock of shit.
PD make these stupid 24 hour endurance races as part of "The Ultimate Driving Sim" - and it is always light.
This game is very much a a service pack for GT3 - not deserving of the title GT4.
Yeah, yeah, yeah it is fun, but nothing like they made it out to be... ;)

I've got about 4500 B spec points and my driver seems pretty good.
I've ran almost all my races with lots of mods n still getting points.....
The type of car and how you set up the car also effects heavily how your B spec driver drives.
For example, i did the same race with the same car 3 times with traction control set at 1, 6 and 10 and the B spec driver was by far the fastest with it set at 6 for that particular car....

Yes - the mini-me is driving... and I check in (it is the Picture in Picture on the big screen TV... :) ) every now and again.
LeMan runs from 4pm to 4pm - correct? So, if they make out as if this is the "real driving sim" then it should run from about 4pm to 4pm... :P
Next up is the old circuit LeMan with the full Mulsanne :)
I still need to force him to race those two myself :D
Right now I was triyng to make him help me in the F1 championship wich is basically a 10 enduros series :shock: but he isn't up to the task sadly.. we still managed to win the first 4 races, btu only thanks to me.. the bastard had some problems on a couple of tracks
On a side note, I would like to do a test to see how our "minime" compare to eachother.. when I will be back from Paris next week ;)

With regard the 24hr race, what do you do about sleep? :shock: Can you tell you person to pit in evry x laps or something and forget about it? I have yet to look into the B spec racing properly.

B-Spec is TOTALLY automated guys.. what us for it if you would need to manually tell him to pit, to accelerate or to brake ;) that's A-Spec ;)
The only PITA is that, after every pit stop, speed go back to "live", while obviously in 3x mode the 24 races can end pretty quickly ;)

I am pretty pissed that there is no night time in the 24 hours... that is really a bad omission...

That's exactly how it was, but I was under impression (from way earlier in this thread) that they'd appear during days 649-699 and that I'd have to check every day to see if they appeared. So I was getting a little paranoid when they didn't show up early. :)
Yes I remember somebody posting the 649 indeed.. but just a typo :D I found out the correct dates on gamefaqs time ago :)
Well - the B-Spec points are officially a bunch of crap.
My mini-me collected 800 points after doing 6 competition endurance races in the F1 car. He only got 12 points for racing 24 hours at LeMans...
The game awarded my B-Spec driver 900 points for winning a "family competition" race - in a MAXIMUM modified BMW M3 GTR on race tyre against the Zonda and Nardo etc.
This was a 2 lap race in the "World Course" test area.
Then they game awards him ANOTHER 100 points for doing it again.
So 2 friendly races of 2 laps each in a modified car on slicks wqas worth almost 100 times more points than a 24 hour endurance race.
Again I say this game is an unfinished unbalanced beta version... ;)

Nope - they were simply too lazy to code night time. It is really not that hard, afterall, 2 of their tracks are already at night.

Oh boy did that race piss me off or what? I lost by .007 or .07 or something like that. I WAS SO FUCKING PISSED! I try to get 100% win ratio since its been like that since GT2! :D Then after 10+ times of trying I finally got the damn thing and beat it by .035 or .35 seconds? Something like that but it was VERY close!

Yeah those for some reason while racing look good! But it doesnt really matter when you are racing. As long as there is 3D rims in Photomode I am happy. :)

They are just rare as hell and can help you out in a few races. I would get them or else you would have to wait another 649 - 700 days to get them according to rurmors. Mostly they are for show off purposes and endurance races. :)

I havent started the normal competitive driving yet. Still playing around with the arcade mode.
My observations so far after playing for about an hour:
The new M5 is awesome sounding. The M3 sounds insipid by comparison. They seemed to have added brake dive feature in GT4. The S-type R prostrates itself when you hit the anchors.
Also drove the Ruf BTR around the Nurburgring - did a pathetic 8'34" lap for my first attempt. The track seems narrower in this game than in Grand Prix Legends. I was more on the grass than on the road.
As I am playing in the hotel, I have to do with the standard controller and not any fancy wheels like you guys.

Glad ya like it! :D BTW for the ring seeming narrow I had that same feeling and then later on after I raced at it in the incar view I didnt have that "problem" any more.

Just what i thought too, but the opposition is strong. Sauber/Nissan R89/92 etc..
If you haven't got any of the prototype cars, then don't even bother. I tried it in my CLK-GTR, but it hasn't got the downforce to go round the oval quick enough.
I'm only on day 445.... it's gonna be a while until i can buy any of the black cars... i've nearly got enough cash tho 8)

:lol: No problem. I think the reason why Ferrari , Lamborghini , and Porsche are NOT in the game is because of Liscenseing issuies. EA owns the rights to the liscense's for those cars and will let other game makers such as Forza use them becuase they probably dont like the PD team for some reason?

I think its a price issue, EA does not own the only right to use Ferrari and Lambo in their games. Remeber EA is just a publisher, most games are made long before the devolopment teams contacts EA, or when the publishers bid on a game.
I think someone as big as Ferrari asks for mucho $$$ to use their name in a game.

According to the 5th Gear review, it's a priicing issue. Apparently Porsche and Ferrari charge too much.

Thats what I thought!! Ferrari would get free advertising. It should really be the other way round if you know what I mean, they pay for their cars to be in a game as big as this.You'd think that ferrai would jump at it.

Ferrari pay PD for the car to be in the game? I dont think so. Oh and come to think I dont think a game will make a person say Oh I want that car! But then again ALOT of car people say the GT series is the reason why the Subaru's WRX STI's came to America! And many other Japanesse cars! So I really dont know...

But having a Ferrari in your video game is a great advertising for you (so they charge $$$$)

IMO, why Ferrari is in not so hype games? Like the Forza, Project Gotham Racing, etc. Those games aren't popular enough so they need to have Ferrari and Porsche in it to get attention from the crowd. Not like GT, its already known in the whole wide world...just like leo_26782 said

what i do for the setup for b-spec is what i call an "apex setup" where you have a setup which initially holds that apex grip as long as possible. the comp seems to come into a corner, hold the speed required for the amount of grip and then accelerate when the coast (grip) is clear.
normally i setup for late braking and throtle play to stabalise the car. loads of front end grip meaning... front end bias with a loose but responsive rear. (hard springs with lots of preload and rebound to taste for the front and softer springs, less preload but more rebound out back). stick tons of camber up front with a little less in the back. lift the rear end and lower the front. but try to keep a 50-50 weight. toe in at the front and lots of out in the back.
this is for a mr of course and you'd have to adjust the weight distribution with a different car.
you adjust the sway bars at 1 with one up on the front if oversteers on the turn in and one up on the back if it over steers on the throttle out.
for b-spec do all this... but in the opposite. the comp seems to like being aggressive on the corner exit so having it fast there will gain you those seconds.
those are my findings anyways. give it a try.
