finally got to play for 8 straight hours last night.... i just couldnt stop.. hands started to cramp up and i still couldnt let go of the controller.. i am addicted.

handling is still a little off from reality.... really thinkin bout gettin the force pro wheel to see if that makes it better..

driving on the 'Ring is absolutely crazy! I never thought it was that narrow in real life.... so far my best time is a lousy 10:20 in a 233HP NA MR2 G-Limited.. i wasnt aware of the 'Historic showroom' and bought my first car from the used lot... doh

Still not tried myself at the ring.. I just completed B license, aiming at silver licence at list.. and well, silvers are pretty easy actually, but golds are indeed harder than I remember: either harder than in GT3 either I am growing worse at such games with the age :D

Anyway I got B license with 5 golds and all the rest silvers. Still not sure if the medal in the coffe break counts.. (silver anyway)

One thing that I find to be both annoying and cool... I'm not using all my money to upgrade my cars because I'm saving most of it to buy cars from the used car lots. Which means that most of my cars have minor mods (chip, flywheel, stage 1 lightening), so the races can be fairly competitive.

Also, I really like the Mazda RX-8. The suspension is really nice. The suspension on the Evo MR blows. So much nosedive when you hit the brakes!

Before I even get into the races I'm completing all of my licenses. I have only 1 test left to have them all.

I have to complete the Nurbergring in the AMG Merc in about 7 min 30 sec. for my final super license test.

I did my IA liscense last nite and on my first try I was doing VERY VERY VERY good and so I decided to push my limits and kinda spun out and you know the rest....:( 8 minutes gone just like that! BTW I kept on drifting my car! :lol: It was kinda scary and thrilling!
This game is worth the 50 bucks just for having the ring!

I don't know about platform sharing, but definitely engine sharing....the almost the entire NA line up has the 3.5L VQ Engine. I suppose it's not a bad thing, the engine is smooth and powerful.

The basic idea was cute, but hell, I'd rather go out and take real pics or, if I need to be stuck in front of my TV, at least I will race or whatever, but after the first 2 pics I already "dumped" the photomode and I doubt I will use it that much :bah: wasted time for the programmers as already pointed out...

Anyway, 3:30 am, got the A license with all silvers and 5 golds, now working on the IB, first 6 tests done (silver obviously) and I can have some sleep :D

Quite a number of TVRs and Lotuses popping up in the used cars now and again. Only thing I've bought so far is a used Civic so I could put a wing and nitrous on it (j/k about the wing and nitrous, but I like my type R's hehe)

Most of you guys are well ahead of me in the game but someone keeps hassling me to put fucking shelves up, walk dogs, clean shit and generally distract from my GT4 time!!! Women!!!!!!!

Yup its a glitch passed down from the Japanesse version of the game. Dont worry about it though. It appears for like 2 or 3 seconds in the beginnning of the game and then it goes away! :D

So - to answer your quesiton, Of course is it GT4 compatible - I would not have suggested it if it wasn't.

If I sound irriated - I am, because one of the few things that does irritate me, is when people don't think... and to ask if something suggested in a GT4 thread, is GT4 compatible, when the poster is actively using GT4 is rather absurd.

It's akin to asking your mother if it is ok to breath in after the last time you exhale... if you need to be asking then you shouldn't be breathing in the first place.. :)

To take pictures from a replay you must first race and then SAVE the replay and then go to the theater hall or something and then load the replay and press seclect to pause the camera and then you can zoom in and move camera and all the other good stuff! :D

Yeah I dont think GT4 gives you % for the liscenses?

It is, and cars tends to snap back at you with some massive tailfish too, but afterall it is not easy to control a long drift in real life. And it is even harder if, like me, you play with the regular controller and not with a good wheel

I am still shocked that they took the time to add like 20 different camera sounds when that time/space could have went towards something more beneficial to gameplay. Using the photo feature during a saved replay makes a little more sense because you can capture an action shot or spectacular moment during the race, but that is it.

This is the downside of taking 4 years to write software in this day and age.

At the time, they did not consider that real life digicams would become so cheap that ordinary folks like us could go take 1,000 pictures a month and not spend money on film.

They built this "feature" in to the game at a time when the idea of posing cars for quxlity digital images was still a novelty.

The truth is that with a prototype photo and Photoshop skillz you can outdo the GT4 photo mode easily.

This is why they should not have delayed so many times - because they set the expectation that all the game features would be prefected - and that eyecandy bonus would be just that, a bonus over the perfect game.

Sadly this we now know is not true.

And yes, the photo option in the replay mode is way better. But they even failed with this - where is the frame by frame forward /reverse support so you can grab exactly the frame you want.

When I took this picture, it took longer to hit the pause/play till I stopped on a back-fire flame image with a flame, than the entire picture setup and saving to USB took.

If they are going to allow "track day secnarios" as they do with the free running option... why the hell not let me choose my own 5 opponents.

i love this game. Yeah, its got its flaws, but it still rocks. Although some of the driving mission scenarios are pretty hard. The drafting one with the odyssey and skyline i can't finish. I love the one lap of magic scenarios although the subaru and corvette ones are still beyond me. I'm up to about 10 complete.

However I have nice spot where my PC is situated where I can anchor the wheel. Thus it would be cool to use my monitor for the PS2 as well

Some ppl have really gone to town using old cars seats and welding frames togther!! There are many many cheap mount ideas there in that thread. $20 table (computer desk) black with kinda diagonal grey legs from Walmart seems to be the popular choice. You kinda half build the computer desk. Not very ergonomic but cheap as chips hehe

Actually it can prove quite helpful.

Here is a scenario - youhave a car that you have slightly modded - just enough to give you a small edge over the competition, but not too much HP so you shred you rear tyres and overdrive the track all the time.

You run neck and neck with the AI 1st place runner until you get a chance to pass - and on the main straightaway use your 50 - 100hp shot (adjustable - look in the car config window) to put some daylight between you and the quick agressive AI driver. Saving this step for the start of the last lap can give you the edge you might not have had.

Alternatively, if you can only afford small mods - the nitrous can give you the jump for races that do not have practice (qualifying) to get you near the front of the grid - especially useful for rolling starts where the front guys get the drop on your through some early bends after the start-finish straight.

OK - gripe time agai.... ;) :P

If you buy new wheels, why do they insist that you have trade your stock wheels in - and they are gone forever. If you buy wheels for your car, chances arte in real life you would keep the originals.. :P

BTW, a nice touch is that you can have diff. wheels for diff. tyre types... and that if you shop the "Daily specials' you can buy other cars wheels - like the set of E-Type Jaguar wheels I put on my riced out Hyundai.. :P

With regard to the A-Spec points.. they seem to be increased the closer your cars perfomance is to the competitors.

So if you take a LeMan car to stock hatch bakc racxe, you may get 1 or even 0 points... but take a bone stock Civic Type R to race against an NSX Type R and you get a lot of points.

So the A-Spec points will be an indicator of how often you run cars in a state of tune close to the competition vs running race cars against stock cars.

At least this is what I think the points are ll about. (I couldn't be bothered going back to see if someone else posted something similar ;))

OK does anybody havve a general list of cars in which you can up the displacement? It seems to be a wasted option and same with the nitrous totally useless.

I am loving this game however and I was impressed by the 7.8 time my M3 made on the ring (highly modified and computer drivin)

well I can't figure out why you would spend 5,000 and be barely able to use it say you have a 600 hp mustang a 50 shot of nitrous won't do much.

The really fuckin hard thing are some of these missions! All of the "Passing" missions are easy, but some of the "3 Lap" missions are damn near impossible. They put you all in the same car, same spec, and then give the computer a half lap head start. If you hit the wall too hard you get held up 5 sec. Even after running 3 nearly perfect laps I still had hardly caught up to the last place car. Is there any special trick to getting these missions done a little easier?

Yeah those are VERY HARD! I havent gotten past 1-10 because I just tried one 3 lap race and failed horribley! I caught up to the last place car at like lap 2 or 1 and a half I think?

BTW, when you need to take part in some manufacturer "Single Model" races, you will need to buy the car in the used car lot first.

So, pop into the used car lot every now and again to be sure some obscure model isn't on sale.

That's correct, but not all models rotate out of the for sale list.

Certain do - and it is the more desirable ones, like certain Alfa's, early Honda's, Isuzu's, Corvettes, Merceded etc.

But you can always count on a bunch of Supra's, STi' Skylines, Civics etc for sale.

Oh - and remember you may enter the Used Car lot on the last day of the cycle, and since it takes a day to bu a car, if you see 2 for sale - the second one may not be there after you buy the fist one.. :)

So - if you have th cash, and think you may need or want a certain car you haven't seen before... buy it hehe

They all have similar weights and power, but I don't know which ones have the best suspension setups, LSD, etc...

The most expensive ones are the:

V-Spec II Nur - 1560kg
M-Spec Nur - 1580kg
V-Spec II N1 - 1560kg

and they all have the same power ratings...

The AMUSE CarbonR R34 only weighs 1123kg, and it has 512hp. Drool...

Go to Eurpean Events then race in the Touring car challenge with the Audi TT R's and the A4 DTM and the CLK DTM and so on.
You MUST RACE AT LEAST ONE RACE FOR YOUR SELF IN ORDER TO GET THE 75 000 BOUNS CREDITS! You go and according to GTP it takes 15 mins VIA B-SPEC and then when you finsih you get a CLK GTR you sell it and then you 775 000 for it and in total you make around 900 000! I am starting to use B-SPEC for this since its getting tiring! :lol: I did it like 3 times I think? Anyways good luck guys!

Especially over bumps and under hard braking, because I guess it messes up the aerodynamics and the suction. I put the stage four turbo on mine and its cranking out 1051hp. It hits ~185mph in 2nd gear (3-speed automatic and I messed with gearbox) and it gets there very quick. There is a big delay starting off in 1st, but once it gets going it eats the asphalt up. I tried to run it on the ring at balls to the walls speed, but its too bumpy and I wiped out a lot.

The thing is as ugly as it is fast. For a 1,200,000 or something like that its a good buy.

They all did the exact process that the game warns NOT to do. And that is to remove the card in slot 1, replace it and save it to the new card.

The game warns that you will lose your garage cars - so they do it, and guess what - they lose their garage cars.

Again - computers do exactly what you tell them - in this case they deserve to lose their cars.

IF you want to make a back up copy of your saved game, just do it from the PS2 browser.

God damn guy I just got doing that Super Speed way by meself since that god damn AI sucks ass! :( It was boring as hell but it was very very competitive! :( Rember to have a GOOD pit stratergy! I had to pit every 8 or 9 laps because if I went over 9 laps my tires would just pop at like 215 MPH and then boom I spin out and I am screwed! :( I in the end ended up laping the car in 2nd place 3 times I think? I got very lucky! They pit only every 40 laps and you only have 100 laps so they pitted twice while I pitted like 10 times! :( Anyone else done any enduros yet?

Well - after a week of GT4, and realizing it is just a "so-so" upgrade to GT3... I decided to give TOCA Race Driver 2 a spin today.

Verdict so far:

GT4 - 8/10
TOCA Race Driver 2 - 9/10

TOCA 2 supports the 900 degree wheel, so GT4 doesn't win this feature.. ;)

As too how accurate the tracks are modelled, perhaps GT4 has the edge here, but if I had to choose between damage, better physics and realism vs uber-accurate tracks, I would go with the physics - after all, GT4 claims to be a DRIVING game, not architectural replay engine.. :P

Graphics and eye candy GT4 carries the win, but the physics engine, realistic response to driver input and realistic damage give TOCA 2 the edge.

Plus, the career mode in TOCA 2 has a logical progression to it.

GT4 is the realistic arcade game, and TOCA 2 is the driving simulator as far as I can tell ;)

No cheating here - the game is awesome to just drive. Try pickuo a used copy of TOCA 2 - they are out there, seems people expecting PGR2 traded TOCA 2 in - as it was too realistic.

I have great fun with the Formula Ford racing - great practice - also the 1968 Mustang series. The sound and ambience is awesome.

We are spoilt by the eye candy in GT4, and sadly this lets us discount the importance of the physics.

Of course GT4 just has that certain "GT-ness" about the layout, and options and approach to the game. TOCA 2 would be un-freaking believable with GT4 graphics....

If the XBox can get a proper wheel, and the Forza AI is tweaked, they may just have a winner on their hands.

Lets hope GT5 is everything GT4 should have been... :)

Yeah Toca 2 I am sure is a great game! Its a a pure racing game is maybe why the reason it is popular with cars guys while GT4 is popular with all the noobs and photographers and everything you know? BTW I am sure GT5 will have Ferrari , Lamborghini, Porsche and damage since the liscense to those 3 car companys are no longer owned by EA as of December from what I heard? Hm, this may explain why for me when playing GT4 every so often the screen seems to get fuzzy and the quality goes south for a few seconds. It usually happens in certain parts of certain tracks. I wasn't sure it's a problem with my tv, my playstation 2 (older one), or the actual disc itself.

i just finished my 24h race at nurburgring!!!!!!! i got the fomula 1 car and it rips ass!!!!!! you can take turns so fast! awsome car and worth it to. i got mine in the worst colors tho, white and blue. to me i think those colors dont go together but o well. o that fuzzy thing happens on my ps2 as well but i dont really care as long as the game still works. :mrgreen:

i try the tutorial that ferrari550 posted earlier... the tutorier is mainly cleaning up the lence. and adjusting the height of the lense.... and it works..... but some part of the gamd simply wont load.. for examply... the power and speed section and driving missions... they dont work

Does B-spec count as AI? :D . i did a couple hours by myself but when the time comes you zoned out of the race and your not even looking at the turns any more your just looking at the little red number that blinks and tells you when to brake, its time for my B-spec points to take action :mrgreen:

i had to adjust the laser a few times to get mine to work, but after a while everything started to work. my playstation is still in pieces from when i took it apart, i just play it as is just incase it happens again, lol.

as for the power and speed and the driving missions, i have never had the problem. my only guess would be to move the laser again a couple of notches until it all works.

I have had a lot of trouble this that as well. what i did was do an endurance race and win the 89' Toyota (minolta), put a turbo on it and it gets around 1150hp. Then you can win the last race in pro league.

I know exactly what you mean. At first I was using a SS 454 for those races but kept getting beat by a Buick Special '62. So I bought a Buick Special and midified it a little in hopes of winning. Well than the old AC cobra joins the races and I can't beat it! So finally I bought the Shelby Cobra 427 ('67) and fully modified it with over 800 hp. Showed the AC cobra whose boss. :)

What is the point of a Caterham/Super 7 - that you cannot use competitively. The Suzuki GSX/R looks to be pretty high poly count and does quite well.

There are a number of other "special" cars that seem to be un-usable for no good reason.

I have this problem also. Old shape PS2 (but only 18months old) My TV will handle all the resolutions but it the game seems most stable in 'normal' video mode (I still get a progressive display on my screen as the plasma does the interlace to progressive conversion...)

I dont really consider them glithchs. Its the PS2 fault really. The PS2 can not handle so many high poly cars so it would just freeze up or something you know?

Yeah I know that race is fucking hard! I havent been able to beat it even with me in that Ford GT40! Overall I think GT4's AI has improved vastly and its diffuicult/fun/furustrating.

It's easy to set a course and post screenshots of finish times or best lap times, but how do we make sure no-one sneaks an SLR into a Ginetta race, as an example? :twisted:

I raced for years in OLR with GT2 and GT3.. there are ways to vaguely verify a lap with a indepth walkthtough with gears and speed, but impossible to verify the parts installed on the car without a sharkport so there is always room for cheater sadly...
