Plus there is NO clarrification on the tires yet. I have seen other articles that state it was a language miscommunication and that the the engineer said "it could have done low 7:30's, but would have required "cut-slicks".....either way its still fast.
Also Nth.....there is no conclusive evidence on the 997 Turbo's 7:40 lap (the only thing i have found is a Motor trend estimate). No one knows what it was run on. The only thing that we know is sport auto ran a 7:54 in the Turbo on MPSC's.......there is also another times showing Walter running a 7:49 on MPSC's. .......MPSC's are not an option on the 997 Turbo

Sport Auto did the test of the new GTR on NS; and it was posted in the magazine scan section, and it ran a 7:50 around NS, which is what other quotes from Nissan engineers have said they expected it to do. In the video, you can clearly see an odd tread pattern that was in the tire used. Furthermore, they called the track wet. In the video, its easy to see that the only thing that could've been wet was the condensate on the grass beside the track.
Nissan have always been full of it when it comes to NS and the GTR's track time... remember they claimed the R34 could lap in 7:59... SA got it, and could only manage a mid 8 Minute lap at best.
As to the Porkers not being as fast.... The Germans have a reputation to keep
