hmm, when speaking with a McLaren representative, they told me that the ceramic brakes of the SLR were created, installed and treated by MB and McLaren, not by AMG.

I wonder if AMG were testing some non-SLR brakes and that they were producing the "big and huge" problems. A bit more clarification would be nice as I don't really know what the problems are from your post. Was it brake fading? Bursting up in flames? You know, that kinda stuff... I've read and seen so many reviews of the SLR and the brake system that apparently, whilst a bit too sudden, is extremely good at stopping the car. Perhaps there's different brakes for the car depending on the market?

So anyway, from what I spoke with the McLaren representative, it's not AMG or MB that works on an SLR, but usually a specific technician using their own tools and bits and pieces. So I don't really know where the AMG team comes into this... *confusion*

My bad, by AMG, I ment the whole thing. Mclaren, MB and AMG.

The whole thing was set up by Wolf Zimermann, who is a thechincal director of AMG, or something like that. If the results were succesfull, the brakes would then also be used on all AMG range.

The problems among other things were, that the brakes can catch fire and they start to fade too quickly. That's what they said.

I don't think that the brakes are different from market to market.

But I will look into this and report what I found out.

Yeah, I've heard the brakes go up in flames, but I also heard that they do work quite damn well and lasted longer then many equivalent ones...

Sweet pictures, that's a lot of 65 series cars...and the SLR looks great with those wheels and the silver color.

Awesome event, too bad you had to leave so early. The orange CLK DTM test mule looks just so hot and I like the dark blue SLR, nice to see it in another colour as the standard silver and black which where available since the launch. And good to see the 300SL in action on the track.
