Seemed safe enough to me in a 10 year old CRX VTEC as well, didnt mean it _was_ safe though But hey, I was just a kid...

It's not about the driver, or the car, its about the things you dont have control over, mainly other peoples ignorance of the fact you are approaching them at 40 metres/sec relative to their speed as they pull over into your path...

Hence use of an "empty" motorway is advised

And i hope you didnt get too badly hurt/shook up in the Civic. I appreciate a lot of this is down to chance, and if one takes the chance, one must have already realised what consequences could result.

Of course. The scariest thing I experienced is (after a while at 140) when you slow down to 110 and 110 then seems like walking pace...I didnt have any accidents, but I could have, and it wouldn't have been survivable without a lot of luck...
