The folding roof is interesting... do you mean there will be no Modena/Spider versions... just a CC (Coupe/Cabriolet)???
That's exactly what I've heard. If so the "coupe" will have to carry the heavy mechanism so it definitely wouldn't be a lightweight ride.

Well, i doubt Ferrari will try to do that too soon. They would have to do a load of R&D to see if they could make it (the mechanism) lighter. I guess we need to bookmark this thread, then when the 500(???) does come, we can see what we predicted, and compare it to the outcome 8)

The reason is that most of F430 sold wil be Spiders (55%, actually, says Ferrari). As they are also more expensive (6-7% in US, 9-10 in EU), they'll make more money of them, so they introduced them earlier.
And just a bit about the roof: Ferrari did not design the roof and doesn't make it. It's made in Germaniuy, by the same company that does roofs for 911, Boxter, Corvette, SL & SLK ...

Nope.... mindgam3 is right. It was in an interview.

BTW - we know Ferrari did't design the hood, but it had to be designed for Ferrari by this other company.... they didn't take it off the shelf

Doesen't matter who made them - the reason the 360 spider was late, and the reason the 430 spider was introduced at almost the same time as its coupe counterpart was because they had to wait for the hood mechnism to be finished for the former, and it is exactly the same for the latter.

A misunderstaninding. It's true that they waited for a roof for 360, but if 430 spider was a less sold car (like 20 or 30%, like M3 ...) it would be launched quite a bit later, to freshen up 430 image and recognition. As it is a most sold F430, it was launcehed fast (that from guys from Ferrari that I spoke with).
Roof manufacturer info was just for fun. And it's CTS, Car Top Systems ... Of course the roof was designed at Ferrari request and guidelines, who would design a roof with no customer in sight?

If the current 430 performs like an Enzo, will the 530HP one beat it? Do you think they will want that to happen? I mean having a car that beats their Enzo which wasnt released long ago...

interesting. i'll wait for some more solid info before entertaining this possibility. i've yet to soak up the full experience of the still new (believe it or not ) F430.

Even the 530hp version would not perform like an Enzo neither in terms of straight-line acceleration nor handling. But it would be pretty close I have to admit. But the point is the Enzo was all about rather exclusivity and Ferrari themselves admit that it wasn't supposed to break any records or take on the F1 it just should have commemorated the founder of the company. The forthcoming F60 (or Super Enzo) is a different case though.

w00t! I'm back!

Anyway, back on topic:

I doubt this is true... The F430 is selling rather well and its performance is at least a match for the direct competitors. And keep in mind that Ferrari is a small company, so they don't have the resources to build a complete new car in such a short period of time.

I could believe in this if we were talking about a "new" model like the 355 was for the 348 or the F430 is for the 360 Modena, but since the F"Idon'tknowhat" will have a complete new platform, this is highly unlikely...

But I'm sure that part of this is true... Keep in mind that around 1994, after finishing the development of the 355, the 360 was already being developed.

So, I'm sure that work is already being done on the F430's replacement, but we shouldn't see it before 2009.

As for the suposed V10, it's again highly unlikely, since the F430's V8 is a new engine so it wouldn't make sense to drop it just after 5 years or so...

And I remember hearing somewhere from a well positioned source that future Ferrari's will be smaller, lighter and that handling will be even more the main concern, while power (since it's already so high) won't be a so big concern. Hence, the V10 makes no sense.

Understatement of the year

The Spider (correctly spelt) has a 3yr waiting list in the UK apparently. They are making as many as they want to sell.... there will always be a buyer.

As for performance.... it beats the Gallardo, but that's besides the point. When have you ever seen a 430 at the smae set of lights as another supercar... never! So it will be the fastest thing on the road-everytime.... except when big-bro Enzo crashes the party - not very likely.

Hehe, I know, I was just being friendly with the competition...
