I wouldn't worry about it at all. When I was learning how to drive stick on my Sentra I missed a few times, no big deal. Same tranny has been going strong since '94 and I've seriously punished it at the dragstrip.
Cheers,
Kal-EL

I hate that feeling thats comes back up through the shifter when you grind on accident. You can just feel the car crying out in pain  But trannys are designed to be mis-shifted once in a while, otherwise every 16 year old that had to learn to drive a stick would go through like 15 trannys in the process. When they engineer them they have to try and think of everything that could happen to the parts them make, to make sure they wont break.

Just a correction, the noise has nothing to do with the synchros in a gearbox. The grinding noise comes from the dog-teeth on the sides of the gears thats slipping over each other in stead of locking into each other. The synchros is a cone shaped part of the gear that can in no way make a grinding noise like that.

I sometimes get a similar noise in my Renault Megane trying to shift too fast from second to third overtaking and the synchromess just cant keep up, and thats only got 6K miles on it, funny thing my Opel astra never did it and I caned that harder.

I wouldn't worry too much, road car have to be designed for abuse as most users aren't great at driving.

Oh thanks!
Anyway company cars are indestructable, travel faster in all gears and don't have load limits. The phrase "fix the bloody thing and get me a hire car" just roll off the tongue these days.
