Misshift!!!
Hi guys, it about my tranny, ist been so lang since I misshifted, but damn today it happened.
Here is how it happened, I was at the redlights, and I was in a hurry for an apointement, so as the lights turned green, I floored my diesel tank, so first gear no problems, my speed was 45 km/h, and as soon I canged to second it made such a horrible noise, because I took my foot off the clutch pedal to fast and didn't put the gearstick completely in second. So I was scared to shit, but I just shifted directly to third, and went to my apointement, and in mean while I checked my tranny by shifting it back to second, and listened for any particular noises, and there were none, I also made a pull in second and it seemed ok. Well my question is, should I be worried and do I need to do a check up or something, I would like to know your advices about this. |
nah. your tranny should be fine. if anything was going to happen to it, it would have happened right away. Chances are there are just a few more shavings in your fluid now but it won't matter since all manual trans. get shavings in them.
|
Im sure its ok. You might have damaged it a little but nothing serious.

I wouldn't worry Speedkillar, as long as you don't do it often, you should be fine. |
I hate it when that happens. Never heard of it happening on an auto. When it happens to me in my Manual, auch it hurts. I get a feeling inside as if my bones were eating my skin... terrible!
|
666fast : ask your friend to double-clutch :) i used to have it on an old car of mine so picked up double-clutching to match the engine revs etc .. felt good too!

I don't think he cares, doesn't drive it as much with the rising gas costs. 7MPG in that beast. He'll fix it eventually. |
Thanks for the help guys, but one more question, can I change the oil, 'cause of the shavings in them?
|
^^^^^^^^ok, I'll think about it, thanks.
|
Ohhhhhh, I hate that sound, makes you cringe so much. On my MGB, it used to grind sometimes when selecting reverse, even when completely stationary, I don't think it had any syncros for reverse...
The gearbox can't take a ton of abuse, but once, you'll be ok. :P |
^^^^^^^^^^^ yup, it was an awfull sound, it was like it was inside me, damn, sooo awfullllllll
|
Your syncro on second just lost a little bit of its life! Thats about it. no problems, you only do serious damage to you box when it makes that sound and the gear is engaged! :? Oh, and you find the contents of your gearbox on the tarmac.
|
^^^^^^^^ damn, lost a bit of its life
But nonetheless it still changes smooth, thanks. |
Hey mate, don't feel too bad, happens to all of us at one time or another.
Doubt there would be any damage, as the noise makes you realise what is happening pretty damm quick! I learnt to drive in my car as did my sister(bad idea!) and I still own that car(1989 Nissan Pulsar SSS) and it still drives good.Needed a new clutch(engine out job  ) but to be expected. 2nd gear syncro is non-existant but responds well to heel-toe and double clutching! Saves the clutch too. I like the fact that with speed you can double clutch and then slam on the gas straight away without abusing the clutch. Autos suck dogs balls! Oh, was out for a walk the other day and saw a little laser hatch(circa 1985) cruising down the main street of my town. The person went to change gear at approx 40km/h(50km/h limit) and got reverse somehow, should have heard the noise, reverse lights went on too!  |
