Problem with Ferrari

Think about all cars change from generation to generation of course the 288 GTO dosnt look like the Enzo theres over 30 years of change there. Morgan is the only car maker i can think of who have kept the same basic shape/design through there entire production (plus who would drive one anyway?)

I really don't like the new 612, I think it's a departure from ferraris racing heritage... At least the 456 still looked attractive and had beautiful lines. The 612 looks like Chris Bangle from BMW got invlolved in it's design. To be honest I expected so much more from Ferrari and am dissapointed. This car may be aimed at an older market but thats no reason to make it ugly!

I must need an eye exam also , although i prefer the gallardo's side vent scoup more so than the murcielago, but in regards to the Ferrari, The F-40 is used as a measuring tool against the subsequent models, the only reason i think is because its the last car Enzo designed himself, just remember Enzo himself told a reporter once that the most beautiful Ferrari is the next one being made. The Enzo model is a very visually shocking car i think its beautiful it is definitly influenced by F-1 Design where Ferrari's grew up, On the track. I although am not a huge fan of more sleek designed ferraris i think they are getting a little to rounded out. I like the f-40 and 50 designs they are more rigid and the lines are more menacing, but once again like anything opinions are like assholes everyone has one

well you cant say that a company is loosing style because todays buyer is shopping for their money they dont just go for the name any more... look at austin martin look at lambo... the more you keep your cars looking the same the less you sell, and you can only over price your name by so much and then the compeditor will take over when you go too far. i agree with some of the things you (artypossum) said, but im attending school on car design and believe it or not the thing that companys do when they want ideas is hire a class to their design and the new gen of designers go with the trends. from whative learned about ferrari is that the grill and the round tail lights, and if you look at the evelution of the company they have stayewd with in the guide lines of the design...

but the funny thing is the best that ferrari has done is with the new style, i mean the 360 has outsold the 355 and the enzio has more demand then the f50 or the f40... in my opinion the company is moving forward and so are the times

I think people still buy Ferrari for the name. No question that the heritage and mystique play a *huge* role, plus the poseurs buy for the name.

Point in case: a friend of mine was looking to purchase an existing Ferrari dealership license (rare and $$$$), and when rebuffed, was offered the same for Lamborghini/Aston/Bentley - he flatly refused the second one, as with even the new products on the move and the Bentley Conti GT supposedly going to do well, the numbers still didn't add up.

one word: evolution

look what happened to mustangs. now they're making an ultra-retro version to make up for it. i don't think Ferrari needs to do that.

personally, i love the way the new Ferraris look. its ok to lose some family resemblance as long as each restyle isn't too dramatic.
