Problem with Ferrari
 

To many any Ferrari is perfection. The power, the speed, the handling and the looks. The problem lies in the last thing I mentioned:the looks. Ferraris are in no way ugly, but they are beginning to lose that family resemblance that makes them, well Ferraris. Take a look at the Enzo and it's original predecessor the 288 GTO. Where is the resemblance, the styling cues bar the rear lights? The 612 Scalgetti is another perfect example. What do all you people think? [/img]

Well to me, Ferrari's have lost thier looks. I think the F335 was the last good looking Ferrari. But yeah, i see what your saying. Shapes used to be much more square. F40 is much different then the Enzo. 612 much different then the 456. The 355 is much different then the Modena. In my opinion of course.

wow i see what your saying never really noticed. but now the styling for Ferraris have been a bit off 612 too round and weird looking lights and the Enzo rounded tail lights? but i still love Ferraris just not the 612. i loved the 288 GTO and the F355 which seemed to base off the older Ferraris but to me the Testarossa was the last true breed of Ferrari and the Enzo doesnt deserve the name of Enzo Ferrari it doesnt look anything like his work

Well...you're right the F355 does look better than the 360... 8)

I think the modern Ferrari's look better than the older ones. I personally love the look of the 360 and the Enzo.

F40 --> F50 --> Enzo... ther is a slight trend as the design gets more extreme and influenced by F1 cars. (the front of the Enzo is very similar to the F50) :)

456 --> 612... there is more than a resemblence. The profiles of the cars are very similar, with a typically long nose, rear-heavy design. Thats just my opinion though.. :wink:

While I agree that the current cars are losing the resemblances to the older ones (even mine looks nothing like anything previously) - bear in mind that at the time, the F40 was considered a hideous beast, especially compared to the brutal yet smooth lines of the 959.

Form follows function - can anyone really call the McLaren beautiful? No. In my opinion, cars lost their looks in the 60s as a whole. Look at cars like the 250 TR, 250 GT SWB, 275 GTB/4, the Muira, Alfa T33 Stradale - all SEX on wheels. Yes, we've had a few timeless designs (the 355, for instance). But one must remember that most cars are designed with a purpose (at this caliber) and that form will always follow.

So - while the aesthetic beauty may be "on the decline" - the functional beauty is greater than ever.

That's what drew me to the F40. When I started looking for mine - it was never about the looks. It's about what the car represents, that functional purpose from which we derive beauty.

Or I could be a raving idiot... :D

Oh, I meant to add that anyone who considers a Murci, a Gallardo, a Veyron, etc. aesthetically beautiful needs an eye exam...

I dont see anyproblem with Ferrari. At least Ferrari are trying something new, unlike Porsche with the old 911 look for the last 100years........and I adore the 360 and the 550 they are simply beautiful machines

You guys should argue about the new diesel Jaguars, Jaguar SW,...etc.

Actually, I feel that the cars definitly look like their recent siblings.

456-> 612.

As for the previous cars, need I mention the minimal of design simularities between ferrari in the 60s and ferrari in the 80s?

Yes, you are right. The design is unfluned by F1 cars. But they still look nothing alike IMO. The F50 sorta of looks like an Enzo. But the F40 looks completley different from the Enzo. I don't see the 456-612 resemblence. Profile yes. But the tailight's, rear and front are so much different. In my opinion.

You have to change with the times my friends.Yes Ferrari's are getting rounder but so is everything else If you have ever seen an Enzo in person it is simply stunning, and it is a race car inspired car, the designers know what the hell they are doing. The new crop of Ferrari's are the best in dsign since the 1960's.

The 612 pays homage to the 375MM. Personally, having seen it, I was not overly impressed. I promised I would withhold judgement until viewing it, but upon seeing the car a few times, I must say, it's too large. But that interior is wonderfully modern.

I would still pick a 456 over a 612...now if only you could somehow fit 456 clothing ON a 612...hmm... :D

Well, the 612 is based on one of Ferrari's earliest 2+2 models...

But for the new styling, I love it! The oldest Ferrari I would like to own is a 512 TR. Everything else (from the '80s and '70s) really doesn't appeal to me. So, I'm happy with the current lineup of Ferrari... Just look at the beautiful 575 :P
