Oh, wow. I just read this whole thread beginning to end. I don't know much about you Jabba, but I can tell you've got sensational taste.

Someone mentioned carpeting the garage earlier, but it seems a little...odd. That is, unless you put polished diamond plate steel under the cars. But a friend of mine has 70's shag in her bike garage, and even her new CBR gets road grit and little flecks of oil on it, and it's just gross.

What about polished concrete or epoxy? They're shiny and reflective, so if you use focused halogen spots on the cars, the floors will reflect the colour of the paint --- especially if it's epoxy on white marine paint. A glossy white floor with red and yellow cars...

Sorry if I'm getting nosy...I've just always wanted the perfect dream garage, with big rolling tool chests and glass-smooth floors, bright lights, a nice stereo, a beer fridge...I'd never leave. This way, I can live vicariously through you.

Keep up the work Jabba. I'm not the only one who's jealous, I'm sure.

Far from it...keep the ideas coming...only one side of the garage floor is currently oxide red...and none of the builders are too sure as to what would be the best surface to roll cars onto except for the current concrete base that is there at the moment....

Maybe you could give me some websites for the ideas you are suggesting and it would be a big help if I can get hold of everything or simlar in the UK.

Thanks

That is a damn good idea about the floors being polished. Perhaps you could visit a Lambo/Ferrari dealer or two and see what they have used for flooring. If you like it, ask who the fitters were and go from there.

I will have a little dig about later today........

if you're looking for suggestions (and that's IF you are) i'd suggest rubber tread. i always fantasized about there being a such thing as rubber roads, where traction were at its maximum, wouldn't it be cool to have a rubber-floor garage? where the tires just sing into the rubber when not in use and everything's all, GRIPPY.

or am i just thinking of my own weird dream garage

hahahaha, well found, you have done , my digging for me!!

I like the tiles....the epoxy flooring is good if you are actually working on the cars e.t.c the tiles are more show room style.

Those are good links!

I think brembo nailed it with the badges. That would be very very cool. In altezza's second link you see in the Volvo showroom it's also possible to have badges printed (apparently) on the tiles if a mosaic is not possible.

This is indeed a fantastic website....just what I have been looking for....

http://www.ultimategarage.com/UltGar2x.htm

The tiles with the logos is an excellent *dream* idea...but I am not sure if I will be able to afford this along with everything else I have had to pay out for.

Perhaps we could start a sponsored tile campaign on JW where everyone could buy one tile (depending on the cost of course)..perhaps I could put your names on the back of each tile or something with the date...and of course post the pictures on JW....just an idea....

Thanks for all the great advice anyway.... 8) 8) 8)

jon_s
02-23-2004, 09:55 AM
what are the costs of those tiles?!?!?! - lol, you two have had a conversation while I was typing this lol

I was thinking exactly the same about the footballs lol

I like the garage in your pic, the tiles especially....I have always like slate.

Perhans, instead of putting the Ferrari/Lambo logos on the tiles, you could have a simple white wall (cheaper) with the logos painted on (perhaps cheaper that printing onto tiles). Maybe I should use 'cost effective' anstead of cheap lol

Just another point: keeping a while floor clean with cars on may be a pain in the arse. Grey/Black tiles would hide the dirt and emphasise the colour of the cars. If the car logos were printed into the tiles, in time it may get ruined and look really bad..(an expensive mistake)...

Are you planning on having the tool boxes?

Or, have something like this made up:
http://www.isquare.com/personal_pages/images/ferrari-garage-logo.jpg

I was not thinking of a yellow wall though.

TT

I think if you have this type of window you could do a nice trick with it..
get someone to print out the negative part of a ferrari logo with the same window size. Then just stick it on the window... in day time the ferrari logo will be displayed ..
Just my cheap idea.. lol tell me what you think

Ive always liked the look of stone flooring in kitchens and utilities, but they can be a bastard if u drop nything!!! Plus u'll have to wear ur slippers when u come down for a cuppa, bacon sarnie and the papers on a sunday morning those floors get bloody cold!! lol
Looks nice.
Also, are you goin all white tiles in the bathroom? I dont mean to be rude but IMO i think that style can be improved upon. I quite like the sandstone look. In the bathroom in my flat thats the style we went for, i think it looks quite fresh, contrasts the stainless steel well and the oak border sets it off nicely.

I really wanted dark blue tiles at the bottom with a border than white tiles at the top...but the bathroom is an awkward shape and wouldn't really allow it....the colour of the tiles being fitted may not come across very well....they are not a pure white they have a peach effect in the design...I also have a pure white Jacuzzi being fitted that I also had to take into consideration...

BTW coombs and son...I think your bathroom looks great....and thats exactly the sort of style I love especially the towel ladder rail...I am also getting the same style of bog as you...and that handle looks great as well.

All looks great and thanks for posting the photos...maybe we should think about a home improvements section on JW....

^^ LOL, absolutely, i'd b happy to contribute!!
Now i look again at ur tiles, i see the effect you are talking about, they arnt plain. You have to be carefull with white, it can make the place look like an opperating theatre! But as you said, the dark blue border should contrast really well.
By the way those towel rails arnt hard to come by, i think mine was from screwfix, and reasonably priced too.
Ive always wanted a jacuzzi, for full big pimping potential!!

I have photos of the kitchen and lounge as well if nyones interested, but this is the jabbas moving in pics, so i dont watn to thread hijack!!! lol

Yeh only trouble is I cant have the blue tiles  but I am sure its gonna look nice (I hope) none the less.

About the white...tell me about it...I was having serious doubts about the kitchen looking too clinical...but all came good today when they put the fittings back on...so far everyone who has seen it (in reality) likes it....

Fire away with ya pics..don't worry I am interested in all ideas I can nick from ya...

I like the kitchen as the dark granite splits it up nicely, i like it running up the back of the wall as well, unusuall but looks nice.
Are you having a shower in the bathroom as well, as a nice stainless shower surround would work well against the white. Maybee stainless blinds as i have in teh kitchen pic (cant see to well tho)
Oh, what lighting are you goin for? Pendents, or downlighters? I'd recomend downlighters as IMO the look is more modern, and worth the hassle. Also the low voltage ones seem a good idea at firsta s the fitting are cheaper i dont hink you need transformers, but the bulbs blow for a past time and they arnt cheap.

Thats no kettle, it is actually a small spaceship indeed.
I had the pleasure of beating the living shit out of that cast iron piece of shit wiv a fuckin huge sledge hammer!! And took the skin off my shins in the process (mental note, always swing away from legs).
I plan on cooking, i enjoy it, but as im alone up there at the moment, then i just go in teh main house and have dinner wiv the family.
Hopefully if i can find a willing sexy lady to accompany me, i mite have to use it 4 a couple romantic dinners!!
Nah fuck it takeaway it is!

Love the fish tank. I think i have a hob thats identical to that one!!!! I like the wood units as well, thats what we have in our kitchen in the main house, stightly lighter shade tho. About a year ago we gave it a make over, oak flooring, differnt worktop (dark granite effect) put in a breakfast bar, and a large range cooker, with granite surface either side. It brought what was quite an old kitchen back up to date.

Same, ours is over 10 years old, but a change of work tops, cooker hob, and flooring, and the units are given a new lease of life (and they r the expensive things + fitting), so just telll prospective buyers if they are put off by it that it doesnt take much to give it a new lease of life.

The kitchen is coming along beautifully. I wondered about that fridge when I saw it out of the kitchen, since it doesn't match the stainless stove, but damn. It works.

Also, are those integrated speaker wires in the top corner of the kitchen wall?

Yes I am really pleased with the doors..I will post a video of them a bit later in action...they have a very smooth motion indeed...

I am a little worried about the width of the garage as you can see parking the bimmer head on is quite tight.....I can see the garage might have to be made a bit wider at some point...until now...I think the camera I am am putting in the garage will hopefully help with parking the beasts.

coombsie66
02-29-2004, 05:06 PM
Looking gud.
Like you say its proably gunna b a bit tight parking the lambo in the garage head on, u recon it'll even fit, they r quite long arnt they?
That roof hatch ladder looks a little flimsy?!? :?
The tiles in the bathroom have turned out good IMO the effect on them breaks the block colour up suitably.
My bar stools unbelievebly are from argos!! at about £20 each but come in sets of two. so £40.

Are you goin to black out the sidwe windows into the garage? Cus u wudnt want spying eyes looking in on your pride and joys!!!

Jabba
02-29-2004, 05:28 PM
I guess we will have to see about the lambo and ferrari fitting head on...they are much wider for sure... cant say about the length though..

It may be a case of going length ways as making the garage wider would be a fairly big project....but we got loads of room to do it... thats the most important thing..

I agree about the loft ladder and to think that fucker cost me £100...still...probably wont be using it a great deal I guess...I am not so worried about the windows as you cant really get anywhere near the garage unless you are let in through the front gates

TT

Here is what I found out for the lenghts of the 3 cars:

3-Series - 4492 mm
Diablo - 4460 mm
F355 - 4250 mm

Interesting damn! The BMW is the longer one :D

Jabba
02-29-2004, 05:44 PM
If those figures are correct...then I love you TT...I sure will get a better nights sleep thats for sure....as I have been rather gutted since seeing how tight it was with the bimmer....

I now want to get the Diablo over there right now to see how well it fits....

The other point is that in the summer it wouldn't always be necessary to close the doors so they could be parked in a more casual manner whilst they are being used.

coombsie66
02-29-2004, 05:47 PM
lol, turned out awrite on the size front then!!!!
One problem tho, if u wanted to get one of the new rolls royce u'd need a whole new garage!!!! Those fuckers r huuuuge, seen a couple, like 2 fiestas long!

Jabba
02-29-2004, 05:55 PM
No worries there...the rolls would probably be the last car I would ever want....in fact even a benz (not SL of course) is a rather an old mans car IMO....

One thing though...I have a parking aid with the bimmer..and I can get to within an inch of the back wall....of course the Lambo doesn't have that and what with the rear bumper costing £5,000 I wouldn't want to find the wall the hard way...

As for the bumper problem, you can put on the wall some sort of "rubber", tick enough to be save if you slowly, very slowly hit it...

stradale
02-29-2004, 06:09 PM
Or you could park it the other way round and reverse if you want to drive it out of the garage.

Its got years of grime that has been ground into it by the last scum bag that lived there...I think its going to require something a bit stronger than bleach...I tested the patio cleaner on a small part and it seemed to work well...but I am worried as you say about it damaging the colours too much...

I did mention it briefly in the F1 thread why there were no pictures this week....

It was a real disaster this weekend...when I had to give the builder some cash for materials....cutting along story short he could ony fit part of the money in his wallet the rest in another pocket....

Anyway...I am sure you know whats coming...and it is indeed a nitemare...

Somehow the wallet fell out of his pocket or it was stolen on the way to the store and he thought that everything was still ok as he could still feel the bulk of my money in his other pocket which he was the most worried about.

Sadly the wallet contained still a huge some of money (for me anyway) £1,250 and of course despite a major search operation it appears that someone must have picked it up and not handed it in.

If there was a good side to the story then it was the fact that the other money he had in the other pocket was safe and that being £4,000

Of course...it was terrible for him to have to tell me the news....as of course obviously we are all going to presume he took the money and made that story up....

Sadly he is not in a financial position to refund me the money...and I would have to wish to see him have to sell his car or anything like that to pay me back....The best arrangement that I could come up with was that he is now going to to work weekday evenings to try and pay some of the money back to me.....if it works out...then it might have not been so bad after all..as it should allow me to move in quicker than when he was working at the weekends only....

Still very depressing to know someone is £1,250 better off...enough I should think for a lovely holiday somewhere even.

stradale
03-09-2004, 11:21 AM
If he works during weekday evenings to pay back the cash he lost, than it's not that bad afterall. Still, somewhere there's a person walking around with a pile of cash he didn't deserve. That's the annoying part I guess. Of course all this trouble cost a lot of precious time over the weekend, which is a shame since I can imagine you want everything done as soon as possible. It's sad for the builder as well, although he could have taken more care I think.

Assuming that the builder is telling the truth (the fact that he is working overtime may go some way to suggest that he is), this is a bit of a sad situation, everyone involved bar the finder has been affected badly. If I found just over 1k in a wallet, I would do my best to return the money! I may remove a tenner for my services  ....but I know how I would feel if I lost 1k.

I lost £50 once, that was bad enough..let alone 1k

It has had a really bad effect on so many people it would seem...money really can be such a nasty thing sometimes...

First he has had a massive row with his wife...who was crying all night...wondering how they were going to get the money back to me....and of course she had been telling him to be extra careful with all that cash as it wasn't his.

Then in desperation he wrongly accuses a neighbor that he thought had picked it up in the street...and said some things that he regrets now...big time...

In the process of racing back home he went through a 40 mph speed camera at 60 mph.

A rather heated disscusion with his son who is also working full time on the job...and obvisouly fucks everything up for him as well.

That was all before he had to face me the next morning and explain the whole situation face to face....

I see thing are moving along fine jabba (with some troubles of course) but the final product is really becoming something nice!!

Good proposition that TT made. I'm no materials expert but euhm I was thinking aobut it and well you could maybe use a a rubber strip (but I fear it will leave marks on the bumpers if the bumper & the rubber glide against eachother... ) and above that rubber strip another thing, maybe that stuff they put on the metal shit in those car park training parks... Euhm, I could be hugely wrong ofcourse :) but I'm sure you'll figure it out!!

if you're really worried about fitting the cars in the garage, i've actually seen a friend of mine fit 3 cars in a 2 car garage thats similar to the size of yours buy parking them diagonally. the cars fit pretty tightly head on but diagonally there's space to spare. if you do it right you can put one behind the pillar, yet still he able to back them all out without needing to move the other cars.

Loosing £200 would still fuck me off big time....its the wastage that hurts the most I think...you cant help but think of all the good things you could have done with the money...even giving it away is better than loosing it I think.

I just hope that none of them are taking advantage of the fact that they may think I have got many to throw away....anyway moving on....the bath that the other money was for should be here on Thursday....so there should be some interesting pictures shortly after I hope...

sorry to hear about the plight jabba. I guess sometimes bad things happen to good people, and in this case it's a shitty experience for the both of you. It's even more unfortunate that the guy who lost the dosh isn't in a position to repay you. If he's an honest man, then making him work overtime to pay off what he owed you is good enough. I mean imagine if the situation was reversed...can't even imagine what's going through his mind when he had to tell you he lost the money.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. It is true what you say, the worst thing of loosing money is not having it used it in somethings. So many times you avoid buying something because other things have priority, then is when the loss of money becomes a pain. Being able to buy somethign you wanted but didnt and then have your money stolen sucks.

The best way though, is to add comedy right? So here it goes:

I have similar tiles on my kitchen table Jabba! But I have something you dont...

http://demonwares.net/jw/kitchen.jpg

A drunk korean lol. This happened for new year. The party was in my hous and apparently, he relates, he went there to get a cup of coffey so that he could stay awake. He then said to himself "I'll wait for the coffey to cool a little," as you may have guessed... he waited TOO much.

Luckily the old stove cleaned up pretty well but not quite as good as a new one.

Whenever you mention the fact that you consider a CSL to be your daily driver I just have to watch a video of it again or search up some info about it.

Went looking on the BMW site this time. Couldn't find it in the Belgian site, nor in the BWM Great Britain site:
http://www.bmw.co.uk/apm/new_bmw/choose_your_bmw/0,3031,1156_1484__,00.html
even the new 6 series cabrio is mentioned, but no csl.

So I went to the source, the German site. And they surely have some nice stuff on the CSL. Go and take a look at:
http://www.bmw.de/de/produkte/automobiles/bmw_m/m3_csl/index.html
don't forget to click the link next to the big grey M (brings up a new window with lots of info on the CSL)

I just had to download all of the pics and other stuff... There's a screensaver to, with some nice pics.

Man oh man, I love that car...

Oh, must have missed it when you posted that. Can't remember it at least...

That is one fine looking M3 CSL and IMO the price was pretty reasonable to. It only had 3500 miles so that's as good as new.

I found one CSL on sale in Belgium, but they were asking much more for it. 90.000 euros, and the new price in Belgium is only 86.000euros.
http://www.automatch.be/N_autozoekertjes_detail.asp?action=show&id=192686

I wonder how much CSL's were produced again... not much so finding one isn't so easy. Certainly not a black one with aircon.

Sorry to hear the house is not going as quickly as hoped. :(

About the CSL, I think it's wonderful. The engine noise alone is to die for. It looks very menacing in black, I like it. The only thing with black is you can't see any contrast with the black CF roof. There's quite a number of CSLs for sale, although the rest is all grey. Which wheels do you like better, Jabba? The ones on the black CSL or the ones on the grey CSL (the one with POA)?

I didn't mention it because others might find it cool or helpful to identify a CSL, but because I think it's cool. If I were to buy a CSL I wouldn't give a damn whether the majority of people could tell the difference between a CSL, a normal M3 or a 3 series coupé.

Jabba
03-16-2004, 03:01 PM
To be honest I don't put anything in the boot of my current 3 series...the air con is important though as I am often stuck in traffic jams...the tires in the wet....well thats half the fun isn't it....and if they are really that bad...then I am sure I can get them changed over...

The 360CS would be a bit too "flash" for business use...where the bimmer to the non car expert (most of my customers) doesn't stand out as looking as expensive as a Ferrari if you know what I mean....also the Bimmer has the rear seats that I do use sometimes in my current car.

Sadly the new house and modifications has exhausted the poor bank of Jabba for now...so no CSL for me just yet I am afraid.... :(

Yep, good point. I think that's also why most CSL's are in silvergrey. I like to see the contrast between the paint and the black CF too. I've only seen CSL pics of it in silver, black and dark grey. That doesn't automatically mean it has to be expensive, because judging from the pictures a simple glass window in front of it with hinges small and inconspicuous would create the best effect IMO. That way only the glass needs to be cut to specific size and the hinges mounted to them along with maybe a small magnet to keep it closed.

Yep youre right...but at the moment its all these small jobs that are adding up and taking the most time to sort out.... :|

Wood floors are the best and if you take good care of them, they will last forever :D as for the models, as already pointed out, a glass to protect them is for sure a good idea :D I don't "protect" then and so dust is always a problem.. but I'm sure there are many other things to take care of before :D

Thanks brembo for your interest as always....depending on how you look at it...you could say the inside is proabably about 70 % done and the outside...about 60 % (to tidy up the garden more than anything)

I am proably going to go for an easter move in depending on the weather...even if its not completely finished....as I am really getting pissed off waiting for everything to be done now...

Will you use the fireplace? I say this because I belive it's a bit dangerous with so much wood around...I had a fireplace in my old house and sometimes sparks fell on the floor and that can cause a fire if you have a wood floor... :?

Its a good point...a real fire is great and all but comes with alot of work and mess...(too much for my lazy ass anyway)...might go for a closed in log burner eventually...but for now I am hoping the central heating will be good enough...also getting a bit warmer in the UK right now....

In case you want to make a real fire perhaps you could protect your floor from the sparks putting a glass door in front of the fireplace...

LOL andy... not sure this is the best way to enter such a topic.. you ask in a very direct way how much Jabba paid for his house and even post "the finger"? :?:

Yes how rude indeed...and all the information is in the thread anyway.

The screen infront of the fire place should keep most flying embers contained.

The floor really cleaned up nice.

Don't forget that in a forum it's sometimes to much to ask the members to actually read the text that goes with pics :D

DOnt justify it. If someone wants to post in a 27 page thread they should have the decency to look thru the entire post.

TT

LOL I was kidding :D of course I always hope that somebody that posts in a 27 pages thread at least read most of the rest... but as we see everyday, for some ppl it's to much to spend more than 5 second on every page

Or they should if they are going to ask a question that has already been answered in the thread.

So you can put the TV in the fireplace... connect the DVD, and you got it! A "real" fire without any danger around...

Probably wont give off much heat though.
