The name is a tribute to the German auto manufacturer...I thought that part was pretty obvious. From the FAQ:

What is Oktoberfest and why is it being held in July? (July 5 through the 9, to be exact.)

Oktoberfest is the premier, once-a-year National BMW CCA gathering for all Club members. It’s a big party, a family reunion, and a can’t-miss Club event. It’s called Oktoberfest in honor of our Germanic connection, but it’s not always in October. Holding it in July this year during summer vacation means children can join their parents for a fun-filled family vacation week. And Monday, July 5, is a holiday for most people, so they will save a vacation day.

I might go. I live in LA, in Marina del Rey and im very familiar with Pasadena, a friend of mine lives in La Canada. Perhaps ill take a trip up there on one of the days.
