Default EURONCAP - Max Mosley's crusade

Max Mosley's crusade' for safety in F1 has a spin off for us mere mortals: EURONCAP a body, mainly subsidised by the European Union, which claims to provide:
qte..
motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe.
...unqte
check out their website
http://www.euroncap.com/
for more details.
And although it's a good thing to know how relatively (un)safe your car is things are spinning out of control.
Just read Clarkie's column in today's Times Online
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...7797_2,00.html
covering the new Honda Civic and you'll understand what I mean.

The fact that they test safety for pedestrian impacts means they lose all clout with me. Especially in the US low speed pedestrian impacts are rare (and high speed it makes no difference). The costs of such a setup means no more low slung ferraris or the like and extra soft collapsable front ends.

I think the idea of 'pedestriam impact' tests are completely pointless. Some car manufacturers are toying the idea with airbags OUTSIDE cars to cushion a pedestrian should an accident happen.

Aside from being rather, well, pointless, imagine the costs involved in actually trying to develop a technology for these 'pedestrian impacts'.

Collisions with pedestrians happen because of the drivers involved. And it doesnt really matter whetehr they happen at high speed or not. PPl will get hurt, be it at 10 mph or 40 mph. What is the world coming to?

Very shrude plan of Mr "money-grabber" Mosley....

Establish an "Underwriters Lab" for cars - then get all the Governments to buy into that crap - require everyone to have an NCAP approval sticker to sell - that way everyone HAS to pay the Mox a fee to sell a car.

Lemme tell ya - if Max the "Pox" Mosley has a Blue Turbin in a closet somewhere - HE IS THE ANTI-CHRIST.... the man with the blue turbin - as only the DEVIL HIMSELF would subject society to that shit.... 0X

What a crock a shit - not content with screwing up motorsport by making it into his own little private hobby - he is going after the public roads as welll...
