The New Hyundai
The New Hyundai
Taken about 7:45 AM 10/22/2008 on Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor, MI
Manufacturer plates, she pulled out in front of me after a rolling stop in a heavy pedestrian area, not a good driver.
I had to look up their logo, their cars have never been big on style.

Not my style. but it's not bad. Hyundai have really improved on styling in recent times.

^Really? The grille is really hideous in real life.
I'm warming up to the coupe after seeing both with my own eyes, although the new Camaro (and its extremely competitive price tag) makes this one very superfluous.
If anyone's really interested, I can always plop down to Hyundai's HQ and grap more pics...

In my book, that would be disastrously ugly. Thankfully it's not. It's seemingly smaller than either, which is good too.

^You're comparing the Hyundai coupe with the Chevy Camaro? I think they are aiming for different markets. The Camaro appeals more to enthusiasts. The Hyundai is more a nice speedy cruiser for the highways. You would never hit the track with a Hyundai.

You know how the inevitable comparo would go.
Mustang EcoBoost V6 vs. Camaro V6 vs. Genesis V6
All circa $25,000
All having ~300hp V6 engines
All on RWD chassis

don't forget the poor Challenger V6 tagging along behind.
mmk, I say a quick trip to the North American Hyundia HQ is in order. Maybe Jalopnik and Autoblog will pick your stuff up again.

Poor Challenger will indeed tug along slowly with a mere 250hp engine despite having the most mass. Lack of foresight on Chrysler's part... again.

^Yes and no...
It's RWD, but knowing how Z owners behave, they won't look twice and put down 5 grand more for the equivalent Z. The Z is supposed to be lighter and more "sporty" afterall.

^Lighter? I thought the Z was heavier than the Corvette. Nevertheless, this car just doesn't seem that sporty.

^The Genesis Coupe is still expected to be heavier than the 350Z.
But you're right. The Genesis Coupe is interesting, but its purpose seems muddled. It's not the Tiburon/Coupé replacement because Europe's getting that, but the Genesis just doesn't seem like it has an outright sporting intent. Maybe it's supposed to be a cutprice G37 / 3-Series alternative? That seems more likely.

From what I've read so far your conclusion sounds about right. It's plenty quick in a straight line, and reasonably good through the corners, but it's definitely no sports car and is not designed to be a corner-carving beast. The Genesis Coupe's main competition is probably softer-sprung GT-cars like the G37 coupe, the BMW 330/335, and so forth.
