http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_group

here you can read up on the VW group. and actually VW buying Audi is not all bad. you don't seem to be seeing the good side of it well for one thing technology can be exchanged between the brands. also smaller car brands like Bentley profit from such takeovers, they also profit from the technology that VW can provide. All in all it's not bad and beside Audi is still doing their thing fairly well imo

Porsche owns 31% of VW, and probably won't ever own a majority share because of the unions.

I actually have

Porsche denies it is tempted by more than VW majority Porsche Automobil Holding denied a magazine report that said it plans to increase its shareholding in Volkswagen to 75 percent from around 31 percent currently. "The speculation that it would increase it to 75 percent ignores the reality in the VW shareholder structure," the company said in a statement.

After having talked to Balboni when I was in Italy he did not seem to mind what Audi was doing. He still loved the cars and he was very much into the technology that Audi was bringing to Lambo. If he's not upset about it then I sure am not, and I questioned him specifically about how it has become easier to drive Lambo and the controls aren't as meaty as they used to be in the Diablo, but he said the cars are safer now which he supports. Audi is just a parent company, they still are all Italian with some German engineering and the majority of their stuff is done in house, but it was interesting seeing VW brand boxes on their factory floor.

They don't need 75% to have control. From the sources I have spoken with, it's pretty much a done deal. Wiedeking has even stated that he feels VW will eventually unseat Toyota. This sounds crazy, but then again Porsche was at the brink when he took over. Maybe you don't remember, but in the early '90s when they were losing money hand over fist, everybody was speculating on who would take out Porsche. This was around the time when all of the other sports car manufacturers had been, or were in the process of being overtaken by the large OEs.

Porsche's fortune has improved immensly under his leadership. It has the highest profit/vehicle of any OE in the world, when most of it's direct competitors are loss leaders for major OEs. It is in the process of buying the largest OE in Europe, while it only makes around 100k cars/year. He really has earned his salery.

I don't think I ever said you need 75% to have control, all I pointed out is they only have 31% share of VAG. Also, according to everything I have read it is quite unlikely that they will ever own 51% (majority share holder) because the powerful unions in the VAG won't let it happen and they are working on legislation to prevent it from happening. Porsche seems to be the only supporter of buying more of VAG, but I haven't found others that support it. I'm curious as to who does though.
