Hi,
I think Nikon is going to opt for Full-frame cameras when it comes to the pro bodies and will still manufacture non-full frame for amateur and semi-pro cameras, like for example the D300. I don't see why they should focus themselves on creating sensors with a wickedly big amount of megapixels. In my opinion, they better focus themselves on handling noise just like they have done with the D3. It's by far the best allround shooter nowadays.
First of all, it has great noise handling ... a true breakthought.
It has a biblical fast and very sensitive autofocus, this one comes with 51 focal points

8) . I probably won't use them all all the time, but it's a great and very usefull option.
Secondly, this baby comes with the multi-cam 3500FX which stands for ultra fast autofocus. They managed to intergrate the focus system of a camera in a DSLR

:good: .
Besides the focus, I like these pro cameras because they are very focused when it comes to programs. Namely, this one only carries 4 programs which are; A, P, S and manual. Why stock a camera full with all those presetting programs which you hardly or in my case never use. I don't shoot in landscape mode nor portret ... why not you may ask yourself ... well cause I don't like it and these are not flexible enough. Most of the time I use S (that covers 98% of my photography) and the other 2% is manual mode (especially for night shots).
Two other very settings when it comes to picture quality are the exposure and white balance mode. A wrong WB mode messes your whole picture up, the same song when it comes to the exposure setting. These two work together in a way. When your exposure setting isn't very great you will lose a lot of detail and it messes your colours up as well, especially white.
With a bit of luck I will be able to shoot with a D3 welded to the brand new 400mm F2.8 VRII

. This means; a price tag of an insane 15.000€. A guy I know knows the right peeps at NPS (Nikon Professional Service) ... love the sound of that.
Finaly, the sensor stocks 12megapixels which on it's turn is equal to an analog negative (dia). They already got that from the D2x both it's not FF and doesn't handle the noise pretty well and costs nearly the same.
I only got a little news on the new D3x will is said to be launched in February '08. It will stock a lot more mpixels than the D3 and will be slower as well. I assume it will be full frame as well, but I'm not sure about that. It has to be the 'rival' of Canon's ultimate beast namely the 21 megapixel monster 1Ds MarkIII.
The D3 will do the job for me
Cheers
