Default BMW M5 vs Audi S6 vs MB E63 AMG by Motor Trend

From Motor Trend:
1ST PLACE
AUDI S6
Effortless V-10 power, unfailing quattro stability, supreme comfort and style. Frankly, far more entertaining to drive than we expected. Makes $74K seem like a bargain.

2nd PLACE
BMW M5
Enjoy race-car moves-if, that is, you can deal with the cyborg interface. The Terminator sedan for those who like to tweak and fiddle.

3rd PLACE
MERCEDES-BENZ E63 AMG
What Zeus would drive. Fast, rowdy, thunderously powerful, though a bit of a blunt instrument compared with 1 and 2. The choice for rocketing across Germany at V max.

I would probably agree with them, given what I've read elsewhere about these three cars. Audi have really become very competitive in the sports sedan categories.

I just dont understand how an S6 can compete with the other too. It's as fast as an E500 or a 550i. I'm sure it's a great car but I'm just as sure that the Motortrend crew is a bunch of homos. I chose the E63 since this cathegory is all about thundering along on de-restriced roads but an M5 would do fine too.

I think its the price why S6 is competing with them. 550i and E500 are bit cheaper. Have to wait to 2008 when new RS6 comes out. It's going to be real headache to M5 and E63

I think you are very right. Until the rumored 700bhp E-class hits the market

Nothing Is As Good As The Original.
Bang on!

But sometimes the original is a good base to build from

That's what makes the Fifth Generation M5 so good!

I agree, but don't you mean 4th generation M5?

Just as a matter of interest, when we were at the Ring last year we managed to have a chat with Sabine, we asked her which M5 Ring Taxi was her all time favourite.....

Her answer....

E34 !!!

as much as i like the S6, and might even buy it over an M5, the M5 just is the standard, its the car other cars try to beat...

I think the new and upcoming RS6 would be more appropriate to test with these. Here you should test the E500 and the 5XXi or whatever the next most powerful BMW 5-series is. You should'nt test two top "beasts" against one who is number two in the power band..

good article anyway, although I will probably never enjoy a car without quattro or in "avant" mode again

I agree. 8)

Sure, all these cars may have more power and maybe they faster, but what's the use if the Merc is a disaster to drive without traction control, the M5 won't even let you turn off the traction control, and the Audi is just plain boring to look at! Give me an e39 M5 any day!
