Default Spy shots: BMW Z9

Spy photographers have snapped photos of a new BMW roadster in testing on public roads in Munich. After some debate, the general consensus in the spy community now is that this vehicle is the forthcoming Z9 — a successor to the BMW Z8 and a competitor to the Mercedes SL-Class.

Originally thought to be the next-generation Z4, closer inspection suggests that this could be BMW's SL-fighter. This prototype is clearly larger than today's Z4, but that also supports earlier reports that the next-gen Z4 would be growing up a bit to make room for an entry-level Z2 roadster.

The most noteworthy details on this prototype are the side windows–a glass-to-glass like that of the Mercedes SL. Is that enough of a clue to prove this is the Z9? Quite possibly, especially when taking into account the slim, sleek convertible roof that appears to be a fake canvas top glued to a retractable hard roof that's hidden beneath. Consider that the Z9 is aimed squarely at the tin-topped SL, and is reportedly similarly equipped, and the clues further point to this as the Z9.

It doesn't looks as big as an SL It looks the same size as a Z4. I doubt this will be the SL competitor

yeah but the Viper looks SOOOO much better.........

Somebody really needs to combine American style with European driving dynamics. Now THAT would make a great car. Oh and please dont mention Daimler-Chrysler..........that one didnt turn out so well........

Althought, come to think of it, Evo magazine has reviewed the last two America super sports cars VERY favorably.......I think the Ford GT won thier group test and in the last big on the Corvette Z06 came in 3rd, only behind the Lambo, Gt3, and 599 which cost 3 times more!!!! Oh and the Z06 will also beat them around lots of tracks. To me, thats a fantastic bit of kit. I mean, I can go to the dealer and get a specced out Z06 for the same price as a mid range Cayman S......thats just nuts considering the HUGE difference in performance between the two cars.

Keep in mind the Z06 beat the Pagani Zonda S around the top gear test track......and also beat the F430, the old GT3, the Gallardo, and numerous other super cars.......and all for $60,900 USD.......thats simply amazing (to me at least).

Perhaps someone in America, then. Besides, American cars have lost a lot of the style and flair of the past.

This looks like a big Z4. Nothing special. I don't know how it'll compete with the SL because it looks too small.
