There are like a hundred similar devices that have been available over the last 4 years.. Apples a llittle late to this party.

I have had 2 of these type devices, I think Jabba has had one.. if it cost $100 then maybe I would try it.

Yeah, price right now is $299, a bit too much though. I still think they should've fitted it w/ 1080p. At least that way it will be a bit future proof.

If it was 1080p then they wouldnt be able to charge you $500 for the 1080p version they will release by the end of the year.

I'd still like to see how it works though..

I'm thinking the 720p limitation has something to do with the time it takes for content to download off the iTMS. IIRC it's a 1GB low bitrate xvid to download a 44minute TV show that's 720p

Not to mention people will pay extra for convenience. That's the reason why people buy diet pills instead of eating right and exercising.

If iTMS and Apple TV makes it way more convenient to get video onto HDTVs then it already did it's job. I just got my Airport Express router last month and the thing's so convenient. Before we got it we had to put our laptops and iPods beside the stereo, wire them up together and create a playlist to play songs. If we wanted to change the song we needed to get up and change it manually. With the Express router all I needed was to change where I want to send music and that's it. Sure I had to turn on the stereo but that's why there are radio-based remotes.

For people who dont want DIY the Apple TV has the potential to be another great thing.

I wouldnt buy it though seeming I dont have an HDTV, dont live in a country with iTMS and already converted my PC that's solely used for bittorrent downloads as a video player to my EDTV via S-video.

Yeah that is one thing Apple does well. Charging a bit more for convenience. I am sure plenty of people will probably pick it up as well.

720p... so you can't use an xbox 360 or a PS3 with it... or blu-ray, or HD-DVD...

First off like everyone said WTF is up with the 720P when you can go full HD @ 1080p?
Another thing 40 gig HDD? Please that shit is just big enough to store a few movies in at 720P.

Hopefully Apple TV 2 will be better as this was just too much hyped up.

Also WTF why are they using some old school as fuck intel processor? Shit I thought they might at least try to brag and put a core duo or C2D but nope they have to go with some old school shit! Thats a bitch move Apple. On another note I can see Apple's stocks falling when the Iphone comes out.
