Default Rotenburg Racedays - Highres Report

While I was on vacation, I visited an old friend that lives in Germany. While I was there, a drag-event was held on a local airstrip. We decided to have a look and I took some pictures. The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of Hells Angels. Kinda strange, a car-event with Hells Angle security guys. It almost got me into trouble, but more on that later.

The white VW Lupo was powered by a 285hp 1.8T, but did a red light start. The silver Mk2 Golf is powered by a VR6 turbo with 450hp and has 4Motion. It was doing high 10's all day long. There are some videos of it on the internet, it's called "Der Renner 2".

The green VW Polo is powered by a VR6 turbo, and together with the Ford Mustang (called Fordzilla) they were the fastest cars of the day. The chequered-flag Fiat 500 was powered by a V6 turbo out of a Alfa Romeo 75!

There were also some bikes running, modified Harley Davidsons. One of them ran a 9,89 IIRC, quite fast. Probably also the reason why the Hells Angels were there.

With a 500hp V8, this Opel Manta isn't your average run of the mill.

After the competitions were over, everybody that had registered could do some free runs.

After that we decided to go home, but not before taking some more pictures.

As more and more hot cars were leaving the area, we decided to park along the road so I could take some more shots like the one of the blue A4. I wanted to test my settings, so I took a pic of a white van driving by. Little did I know, that a Hells Angel was driving it. So shortly after it he came back and started to threaten me. I'm afraid of nobody, be these are not the kind of guys to play jokes with. He wanted to have the film out of my camera, but after finding out that there wasn't any in it (he'd never seen a CF-card before), he left. Needless to say that after this event we went home. Afterward I discovered that I had already taken a pic of the same guy, it's the fat bastard on the red quad seen above.

All in all a nice day and the friend I went with got a nice sunburn.

Thanks! There were quite some aircooled VW's, most of them were loud and fast. The blue bug that can be seen behind the Suzuki motorcycle doing a burnout sounded like it had a flat-6.

Brilliant panning shots again, Martijn!

And the pic of the two cones looks superb IMO. This shows even simple everyday stuff can look great in a picture. Btw, how did you got the motion feel in the background, while keeping the front cone sharp?

Thanks for the nice words!

I zoomed out while pressing the shutter, 1/30s in this case. Just don't take to many shots with special effects, easy to overdo it. Oh, and IS is very helpfull.
