Default Mopsdrops' Tuning Part Guide --- TRANSMISSION / BRAKES ---

CHAPTER I: brakes

1. BRAKE KITS

What does a brake kit do? Why buy a brake kit?
Aftermarket brake kits (often referred to as big brake kits) upgrade the factory front brakes by offering better stopping performance and better looks. Rear brake kits are also available but usually sold separate from the front. Aftermarket brake kits are a great way to improve your braking system and remove a good amount of un-sprung weight from your vehicle. If you have a high horsepower vehicle, you better be able to stop it in time! Oftentimes just getting new pads won't do the trick, but a big brake kit will.

What all do brake kits come with?
Aftermarket brake kits usually include rotors with larger diameters, stainless braided DOT approved front brake lines, a set of new performance brake pads, and front brake calipers and brackets.

How do you install a brake kit?
Complete removal of your factory brake setup is required, and the new kit is installed in its place. Factory rubber brake lines will need to be removed as well and replaced with the stainless braided lines.

Which brand is dependable for brake kits?
Baer sells excellent big brake kits for car. They include high quality parts and beautifully crafted calipers. All hardware and detailed instructions are included.

2. BRAKE LINES

What do brake lines do? Why buy brake lines?
Brake lines connect the master cylinder to the calipers. The brake lines contain brake fluid so the fluid can push against the caliper every time you press on the brakes, thereby stopping you. Old rubber brake lines expand under pressure, so that instead of the brake fluid pushing the caliper, the fluid stretches the brake line and reduces the maximum performance of the brakes by making your pedal feel spongy. New brake lines combat this problem giving you maximum braking performance and a nice tight pedal feel.

How do you install brake lines?
Brake lines are installed by removing your factory rubber line fittings. Once the factory rubber brake line is removed, replace it with your high quality stainless ones. Brake fluid will need to be replaced and the system will need to be bled.

Do brake lines come in sets of 4?
Brake lines are sold in sets of two usually and are assumed to be for the front, unless otherwise noted. Please check the product description to for more details.

Which brand is dependable for brake lines?
Earl's is the industry leader in stainless steel brake lines. All Earl's lines are fully D.O.T. approved and are direct replacement to the OEM rubber hoses, with no modifications needed to install.

3. BRAKE PADS

What do brake pads do? Why buy brake pads?
Brake pads are what slow your vehicle down by transforming speed into heat against the rotor. Aftermarket brake pads outperform stock in terms of stopping ability. Brake pads are a great means of giving your car more stopping power without spending too much money.

Do brake pads come in set of 4?
Unless otherwise noted, brake pads are sold in pairs, meaning that you buy one set for the front and one set for the rear. Check product descriptions for more details.

How do you install brake pads?
Brake pads are the easiest component in the brake system to install. Removal of your stock brake pads out of the caliper is needed before the new ones are installed. Your brake system should be bled after installing brake pads.

Which brand is dependable for brake pads?
Hawk, Endless and Project Mu all provide a wide range of pads for popular cars.

4. ROTORS

What are rotors?
Rotors are the flat disk-like plates that provide friction for the brake pads to slow down your car. Some rotors have cooling fins between both faces are called vented rotors, or drilled which are called cross-drilled rotors. Replacing your factory rotors with aftermarket rotors will improve your braking power, which can be a high priority if you add performance parts to your car. You don't want to beef up the performance of your car without also improving your stopping power.

Do rotors come in sets of 4?
Rotors are sold individually, per side. Rotors should normally be replaced in sets of two; you should buy 2 rotors for the front, or 2 rotors for the rear, or all 4 at once.

How do you install rotors?
Rotors are installed by removing the entire brake assembly and caliper. Once removed, the factory rotor is taken off and the aftermarket rotor is installed. Everything is re-installed back together. Installing new brake pads is usually done at the same time rotors are being replaced.

Which brand is dependable for rotors?
Powerslot makes a line of high-performance brake rotors that can be counted on for quality.

CHAPTER II: Transmission

1. CLUTCH KIT

What does a clutch kit do? Why buy a performance clutch kit?
Clutch kits are used for upgrading the holding power of your factory transmission and clutch setup. If you decide to haul heavy loads or add extra horsepower to your car, you will need a high performance clutch upgrade to handle of the extra stress. You can only make a limited number of horsepower upgrades before you have to upgrade your clutch. A performance clutch gives your car the capacity to handle the increased horsepower and torque.

What all does a clutch kit include?
Most clutch kits include the clutch itself, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing and the clutch alignment tool.

Are clutch kits available for cars? If so, which cars?
Clutch kits are available most light, medium and heavy duty cars on the market. You'll only need an aftermarket clutch kit if you're running high horsepower levels or towing heavy loads.

How do you install a clutch kit?
We recommend you get a clutch kit installed by professionals since dropping the transmission is usually necessary in order to install a clutch kit. Once the transmission is off of the block, you remove your stock setup and slip on the new kit using the clutch alignment tool.

Which brand is dependable for clutch kits?
Ram Clutches is a great brand for clutch kits.

3. FLYWHEELS

4. LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIALS (LSD)

What is a limited slip differential? Why buy one?
An aftermarket limited slip differential (LSD) is still one of the most dramatic handling improvements you can make to your car. Most vehicles come stock with an open differential that always applies the same amount of torque to both drive wheels. When under hard cornering, if one wheel breaks traction, the open differential actually continues to feed power to the wheel that has no grip. A limited slip differential sends more torque to the non-slipping wheel, allowing those wheels to make the maximum use of available power in turning the corner.

How do you install a limited slip differentials?
Installing a limited slip differential can be a big project even for the mechanically inclined. It requires opening the transmission or rear axle of your vehicle. This job should be left to the pros.

Which brand is dependable for limited slip differentials?
Cusco makes a quality limited slip differential.

5. TRANSMISSION MOUNTS

What are transmission mounts?
A transmission mount is what your transmission sits on. Usually manufactured using rubber to negate engine and transmission vibrations and chatter, rubber begins to deteriorate after continual use. Transmissions with failed mounts will usually allow the transmission to rise during acceleration and slam back down during braking creating a loud clunking noise.

How do you install transmission mounts?
Transmission mounts are should be left to the pros as removal of the engine and transmission is needed. Mounts are usually reinstalled along with motor mounts at the same time since they're easily accessible once the engine is pulled.

Which brand is dependable for transmission mounts?
Energy Suspension and Prothane are great sources for transmission mounts.

THAT's ALL. these are all my tuning guides for performance I hope you'll learned something, if you got any question just ask

where did you find this info?
For Hondas you don't have to remove the engine to replace the trans mount or motor mounts.

yeah, i don't know of any vehicle that requires the complete removal of the engine/trans assy to replace the mounts either. This is pretty much why i wanted to keep this project between T-bird and myself. We can pretty much fact check each other if need be and confusion is kept to a minimum.

No offense mops, i appreciate the effort and enthusiasim, but there isn't really much info in that.
