I got my brand new Canon EOS 20D !
Hi there,
1 month ago I bought a Nikon D70 with a 18-70 lens.
I sold it 2 weeks ago to buy a brand new Canon EOS 20D with a EF 28-135 IS USM Lens.
Here are the pictures:
and some photos I did with it:
Unfortunately I did not get the chance to take some cars in actions for the moment
That camera is far more better than the Nikon (I don't want to feed a troll, it's just my personnal tough), it's faster, menus are better, usability is far more better, the only problem is that you need both hands to set it on and it's a bit heavier than the Nikon, exept that, I really not regret it
I'm planning to buy a new lens in 6 month, the EF-S 17-85 IS USM, what do you think of it ?
Thanks for reading !

Great choice! Trust me, you will be very happy with your 20D. Once you go Canon, you never go back

Don't want to feed the fire either. . . but why a 20D? Just wondering. I got a D50 myself, and everyone I know loves the 350D, but the D50 was cheaper and felt better in my hands. For me, either one of those cameras were too much camera and not enough Photograher -> me.
So what make you choose a 20D instead of the likes of the D200?
My friend has the 17-85mm IS on his 350D. It is an AWESOME lens. Almost as good as my 18-70mm on my D50 . . . j/king. . . haha.

I was nearly planning to buy it by the end of the year (wide angle + decent range) to replace the 18-55 as a walkaround lens. What would you recommend ?

Yeh, I'd like to know too 16-35 L and 24-70 L aren't really cheap options so I was wondering if there is something cheaper but still good

Hello,
I've got my 350D since December, and replaced the kitlens 18-55 with the 17-85 IS lens, works like a charm, takes really nice photo's.
CA ? Vignetting ? Soft ? Not on my lens anyway, and if there is a little CA at 17mm (sometimes with a black frame on a white wall for instance there are some purple pixels) run the raw file in PTLens ($15) and adjust manually or have DxO ($150) do it all automatically for you.
For this price (paid 395 Euro for it) you have a great range and IS, something the 16-35 or the 17-40 don't offer.
I have completed my set with a 10-22, a 17-85 IS, a 70-300 IS and a 50mm prime (and borrow a 100-400 IS from time to time), not extremely expensive and I can cover just about any distance.
The only one I would like to add is the new 17-55 IS 2.8 and much later on a 70-200 IS 2.8 lens, but the 17-85IS will remain as a really nice walkaround lens.
Mark

The 17-40 f/4 L is great ofcourse, although I'm temped to replace it with the new 17-55 f/2.8 IS. The new Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 also looks promising.....

The Canon 17-85mm IS is a great walk about lens but the quality is lacking.
Image quality is good enough for holiday snaps, street photos etc and it's quite cheap. So overall not a bad lens but don't expect amazingly sharp photos.
