Default Think 2020

Ok, its has been a looooong time since I posted here, but I need your help.

Think 2020

For my graduation project I have to design and develop a powertrain concept for the year 2020. For inspiration I would like to ask you what kind of powertrain you think will be available in 2020 and what you would like to buy. Do we all drive in fuel cells or do we still drive on gasoline, or something completely different.

The powertrain will be for a VW Golf / Ford Focus / Honda Civic type of vehicle and needs to be sustainable (environmentally friendly, economical) and cool (quit a challenge).

Powertrain could consist of:
- Fuel cell
- combustion engine
- electric motors
- automatic transmission
- stickshift
- hybrid
- other

What's your opinion on modularity? For instance that you could specify your own powertrain (Golf GTi engine with some electric motors so that you have low fuel consumption for daily use) or no motors and batteries because you want your car to be light.

2020 isnt that far off IMO. No changes till then. Gasoline will still reign.

continuously variable valve system (5 valv/cylinder)

retracting catalytic converters for use only during low rpm, and engine cold times (somewhat new tech makes a cat work just as well when cold)

telescoping intake rnners for continuously variable lengths.

numatic valve systems for higher rpm, and higher control on AF ratios.

long tube headers.

massive glasspacks.

there yo uhave it, a gasoline engine that is incredibly efficiant, and also powerful

What do you mean by glasspacks?

And why still gasoline?

14 years down the road doesn't spell anything but Benzine/gasoline etc.

also, with such efficiant motors, why wouldn't it be gasoline.

glasspacks are extremely muffled muffler stuffing you need to keep that 15k reving motor kidna quiet

P
Beacuse e.g. hydrogen is even more efficient and can produce even more power?
