Well, I tested one (2.4 JTDM ) and definitely Merc or BMW totally lack the sense of occasion you have when you sit in a beautiful leather trimmed 159 cabin.. it's like a Mini Quattroporte.. sex on wheels, I'd definitely buy it over the two germans

They are extremley nice inside, the interior is so well laid, you can really notice the different qualitys. Id take it for sure. Wish they went to RWD like the old days

the 3-series is an excellent car, don't misunderstand me, but it is quite dull. i was veeeery close to buying a touring, but besides not having the space i need, it was just..... dull. thats partially the reason i bought the cadillac, its got a sense of occasion to it. if they sold the 159 sportwagon here, id be the first to the dealership to trade in the cadillac and buy a top of the line 159 lusso 3.2 Q4. In black. and tan leather interior. best sport saloon out there, and i havent even seen one in person. i love it.

Indeed I agree with what said above: I am a BMW nut, the E90 is a great car for sure inside out, but when you pin it against an italian sexy lady like the 159, it really is dull and boring, period! That's sad to admit, but it's like that :bah:

Alfas must have improved dramatically in the last 10 to 12 years.
I had 3 relatives who were seduced by the Alfa 33 of the early 90's and it proved to be a sexy but unreliable, electronic gremlin and interior quality plagued junk bucket.

I can't tell you about how a 159 compares to a 3 series or C class driving wise since I only drove the BMW & Merc. But I do agree that as a car freak, an Alfa is the right choice. The difference in quality & chassis between Alfa and the other two has become smaller. And the price tag of an Alfa is quite a bit less then that of the other two.
If it was me however, I think I would go for the BMW. I love the simple but stylish interior and the way it drives.
I strongly disadvise anybody to get a 159 with that 3.2 however. Maybe the Q4 four wheel drive version is ok, but a 3.2 FWD 159 would be nuts.

Phil, You can't have the V6 without the Q4 system.. at least not in Switzerland.. like for the Brera, the V6 always comes with the Q4, and as far as I read, the Q4 is slightly biased to the rear although on the Brera frankly, it seemed kinda neutral
Also.. reliabily issues with Alfas are no more afaik.. and a 159 comes with a 3 year or 200'000 km warranty, something like that

aha didn't know that the 3.2 was allways AWD. Definitly a good evolution!! And a neutrally balanced AWD car is still way better then terribly torque steering 3.2 FWD GT.

Actually the 159 chassis has the highest torsional rigidity in it`s class , couple that with front double wishbones (unequal length , of course) and rear multilink suspension (4 links) , just imagine how well the beauty handles.
AMS editors said the car goes like it`s on rails , and that was only a FWD , one can only imagine how well the AWD will go

Sorry, but I totally disagree. I think the new BMW's aren't boring. Some people might think they're ugly, but I think they're far from being boring. Audis, VWs and Mercedes are a little boring! I don't like actual BMW's interior , but with that exterior look, engines, and driving pleasure ( RWD !! ) I would bought a BMW over an Alfa ( and I will, I hope !! ).
