Default Audi R8 Supercar Spy Photos [56k!]

These are the FIRST ever shots (and will likely remain the only ones...) of the future Audi R8, the showcar of which was called the "Le Mans". It'll be Audi's answer to the Mercedes SLR and be based on the Lamborghini Gallardo. Customers will have the choice between a V8 engine featuring around 400 bhp and a bi-turbo V10 with an output close to 600 bhp and a top-speed of 345 km/h. The car's official debut will be in around one year's time. Our pictures were taken at Volkswagen's secret test-base in the north of Sweden.

Really? With the sort of power rumoured above, i think i may have a new favourite and most-anticipated car  It will blow those rivals away!
Any idea on when it will be released to the public?

That thing will sell by the bucketload. If they get the pricing right, they'll have the best bang-for-the-buck car in the market. 600 bhp for about 85 thousand pounds? Yep. Here come the waiting lists.

It's one of the rare supercars that spy pictures are not necessary to watch to know how the production model will be, except for some very minor details. So, simply take a look to the LeMans concept, that's it.

According to several serious German Audi forums and car magazines, the optional engine for the first year of production of the R8 (2007) should be a V10 FSI 5.2L of 550hp. It's only the following year in (2008) that we will see an optional V10 FSI 5.2L or 5.5L biturbo engine of ~600hp. Some rumour speaks even about a V10 TDI or V12 TDI in optional engine range for the R8, I'm serious ! For those which have doubts, I invite you to take a look on the R10 on next 24 Hours of Le Mans, that will give you some answer elements.

One thing is sure, we will know more infos about this R8 when Audi will reveal the pre-production model at the 2006 Mondial de Paris car show at the end of september.

It's just a bigger, underpowered Gallardo But I think I will love it anyway

Yes it will be bigger, but don't forget the R8 will have a 2+2 layout, this is why the R8 will have a more powerful engine (optional engine) than the Gallardo.

judging by how cracking the rs4 is, im sure this car is going to be absolutely amazing. i hate to say it, but his car looks better than any of ferraris current offerings.
