Video game the cause of street racing?
prob. played a role in it,
this story has been all over the news here in toronto
http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...=1138186924013
A copy of Need for Speed, a game that allows players to select custom cars and race them through crowded urban areas, was found on the front seat of one of the suspect’s cars following the late-night crash.
“Here we have, in real life, two guys driving high-end cars at a high rate of speed in an urban area,” said Toronto police Det. Paul Lobsinger.
“I don’t think it’s a giant leap for people to say, `Wow, how does this go together?’” The 18-year-old friends were racing a pair of Mercedes Benzes through one of the city’s wealthiest neighbourhoods on Tuesday night, reaching speeds of 140 kilometres an hour in a 50-kilometre zone, police allege....
...Despite finding an auto-racing game at the scene of the crime, Lobsinger stressed the game wasn’t solely to blame.
“Look, in the proper perspective . . . if everyone imitated a videogame such as that, we’d have to ban cars,” he said.

this happens all the time in Vancouver probably because the weather is better for longer in the year and there are so many rich kids in Vancouver, more so than in Toronto.

I can't believe of all the places, these two fags were speeding they were doing it on mount pleasant. They deserve to be charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Just days before the law came into effect, two men died when their vehicles collided in Calgary in an apparent street race.
|
im trying to figure out how that specific law would've stopped a couple vettes' from 'street racing' if the law just requires those who have been cought to have thier licence taken, and thier car impounded for 24 hours... would it have detered them? no
instead of such legislation... promote taking it to a track, and racing schools etc. 8)

SOmeone shold have told them Benz can't stop or turn... not to mention they won't let you shift either.
And exactly what are they going to blame 1949 street racing on? Video games were 40 years in the future...
People have and will always race... from stoneage times to post-apocolyptic times - when 2 or more people line up, a race will ensue...

I'm sure racing happens a lot on Sydney streets at night, and all streets in all cities, for that matter. It's a fact of life, and has been since time immemorial.

Coincidence? I think it's a plant, they certainly have the means.

As much of a coincidence as the Catcher in the Rye novel they found with John Lennon's murderer or Reagan's shooter So nobody really knows...
One thing for sure, video game does make kids overestimate their abilities. Especially with an arcade'ish game like NFS, they would think can handle all the situations on the road at such high speed and the car would go fast as long as they keep the foot down and just turn the wheel...

Need we point out the Amish horse and buggy street race a few weeks ago? I'm sure the video games played a role in that too

it is there fault because they can't drive, but they think it is easy because it is in the video game as Alien said .... wait that is all you have to say? doing 3x the speed limit is ok only if you can drive?
and it wasn't a plant, who think the police carry around copies of street racing games in trunk?

Who thinks, the kids said "Hey let's try out Need for Speed for real and afterwards we can go home and play the game that I happen to have in my car." I meant a plant as in the kids' lawyers advised someone to deposit said game, so it can be used as an excuse. Don't you find it too convenient?

first off they are 18, not kids
2nd how could the lawyers get to the car plant the game, and leave?
if you go to a friends house to play a video game that you own @ his house wouldn't you bring it home with you? or just leave it there?
if they use it as an excuse the judge won't let that happen. this is canada not the US, we only make mistakes on video tapes involving rapes/murderes
