I am talking about 'getting the back end out'

I guess this is really going to only apply to RWD although yes one can get the back end out on a FWD/4WD, but you have to be going a little bit quicker.

I'm talking here about when you take a 90 degree first gear corner, turning into a side road, that kind of thing, and letting physics slide the car round, not massive powersildes.

Well, like I said, it's not big, it's not clever but it is quite enjoyable...

NB, I dont do this if there are other cars about, people waiting to cross the road etc

well, I tested a Skoda Octavia 4X4 the past week and we hed lot's and lot's on new snow and let me tell you, when you turn the ESP off, does that thing go sideways or what.....I just couldn0t stop driving around. Just put in in third or second an flor it, and even if you're in a straight line, the car tends to go sideways.

Probably the most fun I had with a car in december. The "drifts" were easy to control and seemed endless. At the end I was connecting corners like just the way I wanted to.

And in general, yeah, if I get a rear wheel car into my hands or a small fast FWD I usually try to do something with it. If not for anything else just to see, how good does the car transfer the weight from one side to the other....you know, sometimes quich S bends just aren't wnough

Interesting about the 4x4 going sideways though..sounds like a lot of fun

My friend (another of us Brits just recently moved here from UK) has bought an 02 Boxster S and REALLY knows how to drive it.

He had a Skoda 135 and a Ford Granada before - those two cars are both RWD.

I will get a vid of him sliding the Boxster about and post it up (also going to do a S2000+Boxster photoshoot but that's for another thread)

I do it! Got caught by school police doing it too. G35 dont have good turning so when I do a U turn, I press the clutch, rev and release to make a small 180 to ensure not hitting the curb.

i do it when phisics allow it

so, when its wet/dirt... and my Jeep is in 2wd, i just load up the side i want to kick out, then gas it more then i 'ought' to, and a nice controlable slide that would make Tiff prould

when its dry out, i really have to load up the side i want to kick out, once out... its controlable, but with the open rear diff... the power turns to a puff of smoke on the inside-rear tire, and the car will loose its massive angle

when its slick out (snow/ice/slush/mud) i engate 4x4

basically, i gas it, and can do ANYTHING i want
type 1:
gas it, turn in, straighten steering... controll angle of slide with gas pedal
type 2:
gas it, catch slide with steering, and modulate the throttle
type 3:
turn in, gas it, turn wheel to way i want to next slide, lift off, gas it repeate
type 4:
go 50-60 mph, scandanavian flick + gas, neutral... hard steering in to throw the front end back around
type 5:
reverse, steering out, gas it... repeat
type 6:
reverse, 20-30 mph or whatever, neutral, hard steering to throw the front end around, 2nd/3rd gas and straighten (or gas and turn opposite for 540-720)

Well, has any other RWD other, I do it quite often, especially when wet you know it's dumb, but you just can't resist and you don't need to do a 2 miles long powerslide to enjoy it

Well I got a civic Type R it's FWD.. If you are turning and suddnely liftoff the tail just brakes loss.. I really like doing that in that car..

The Evo works in the same way but you need to be going a lot faster entring a corner ..But not as fun as the S2000.. I can't really hold the Evo sideways for long it adjest it self in sec.. S2000 well it's very easy to brake the end holding it is a matter of balancing the throttle and the steering wheel, but very easy to loss control of the car..So I try not to do it in the S2000.. The Civic on the other hand is easy to do so and very very easy to control it as it's in a very low speed.


T-Bird: Pathfinder as in Nissan Pathfinder.. the 4X4.. If so you got balls doing that in that car..

Hell yes Evo I do it in that truck all the time even donuts and I've done 1 E-brake 180 before but that was pushing it. That truck can lay down some crazy patches too from a stoplight.

I only bought a rwd car becuase I didn't know any better

I have slid the rear in a RWD Boxster once and in a stupid Ford Ranger pickup and Mitsubishi Endeavor. My friend who had a S2K mentioned that it was absurdly easy to slide that car in the wet.

Can't seem to do it in my S4 under normal or fast driving conditions - don't want to risk doing something stupid just to find out.

My next car will be RWD - so I am sure tail out shenanigans would be on the menu.

Of course our dear friend RC might be no stranger to a lil rear wheel action

its best to practice when wet, you dont need that much speed to make it slide and tires wont fade as fast. Thats how I learned to control it.
