Just got the new Evo through the mailbox today (great issue btw, Car of the Year

) and there was an interesting article about a new plan to cut the costs of fuel in the UK.

Assuming that enough people sign up to the new card ~10,000 people, the individuals in charge of the scheme will negotaite discounts with a 'major UK petrol retailer'. Working on the principal of those cards used for fleet operators and employee discount cards, enough members could see the introduction of such a discount card of approx. 5p/litre for those signed on.

Who knows if it will work, but hey there's no harm in adding to the numbers to see if it will work...

Just flicked through my copy now, and read this bit - it seems like a good ideaa, but i think maybe a system where a street/company gets together and all its fuel is bought on the same account, then the savings would be spread etc...

On a side note - it's well annoying that at services on the motorway fuel is about 5p a litre more expensive :roll: - If we go on a m-way journey (a long one) we make sure the tank is brimmed up from a cheaper source

What an obscure convoluted way to say 5c..

and all so that the folks who negotiate the "card deals" will collect a sizable commision

Simple sales tactic folks... feeding off the gullible to launch a new marketing strategy. hehe

Why not simply provide a discount to every one as if they had a fleet card...

Same difference really... unless of course the card has an annual mmbership fee... then that's where the real money is to be made in this scheme

Of course I anticipate the commision for the guy that is organising the card scheme.. but I don't see where you are coming from on 'launching a new marketing strategy'?! Surely there are far simpler ways to gather peoples' information that sign up to the card..

No mention of a subscription fee either 'yet'..
