Default Houston - 11-12-05 - Ford GT, CLS500, RufGT3 [Video]

... attended a special open day for a brand new road course in Houston - and a bunch of nice stuff turned up.

CLS500, SL65, CL65, Ford GT, Ferrari 328, Porker Cabriolets, Ruf GT3, Cayennes, ML500, Z06, Evo 8, Racing M3's and a bunch of others.

I was busy signing the waivers and other forms when I missed the Carrera GT going out and the Ford GT doing dough-nuts in the padock.

It is great that we now have a top class facility that's just been built near to town.

I have vido of the GT3, CLS500, Ford GT, ML and BMW's on track in aciton.

Some screencaps from the quick-n-dirty video I threw together. It ws all shot from a digital camera, so is not HD-TV fidelity...

Thanks for this bunch of pics, pretty nice event! So, what about this track? Will it be used also for "public" trackday events?

Thanks for the pics, some interesting cars in attendance!

What exactly is a RUF GT3? I don't recall them ever making such a thing, I'd say its just a GT3 with a kit on it....

Well yes, it's not a full RUF model, just a GT3 modified by RUF here and there

Yep - basically, if you took a GT3 and a large container of money and said, "Elois, put some goodies on here, and tweek it a bit here and there. Make it faster"

You know - the usual thing that folks with bottomless cheque books do...

Yeah - I saw the C-GT blasting down the back straight - going veeeeeeeeeery fast - but considering the the C-GT, the Ford GT, the R-GT3 and - well every other car that went on the track are all owned by a group of buddies (supposedly there is at least 1 Enzo and a couple F-50's and F-40's in the group) that are part track day nuts - these cars will be out there often.

Oh - and they are part of this "Hey - let's build a race track on this field" group of guys. So they did just that - built a track in the middle of a farm.

The track is basically a Sportscar Country Club - you buy a lifetime membership and get to us ethe track almost anytime you want to.

http://www.msrhouston.com

Non-members will get to pay to buy spots at various track days and other events.

I am waiting for one of the track day events to see how I like driving the track - My daughter and I were taken out as passengers on the track - and it seems quite nice - very technical and quite fast in some areas.

The C-GT and Ford GT were running about 145mph on the fastest bit - so its a nice mix.

I did not get to tak my car out because I am not a member ---- yet ---- and I am seriously considering joining up. I just want to get some time on the track to see if I will like driving the layout - afterall, this will then become a "home track" - and will go every weekend I get a chance to.

checked out the site...cool, thx for the info.

I respect people who put their money where their mouth is....

The layout really seems fun. Any idea, how much everything costed? Must be quite a number.

the areal photo of the track looks awesome. Not finished, just dirt.

so what's the cost if you wan't to join the club? - ignore that, got info on the site....

anyway, thx for the info...

be sure to viosit the trac once in a while and bring us some photos..

A nice way to get a lot of track time then

I heard you on the vid at one point going "Sssshhhhh" to your daughter, lol

From the track layout pic you posted, there seems to be some quite long straaights, mixed with a few sweepers, tightening apexes and a realy technical section too

I hope you go ahead and get a membership... hot lpas with RC45 would be a great video 8)

Yeah- she was going on about getting to out on the track again... (we went in the MB SUV) and I told her to wait till we got back to the paddock... but she kept asking ... "Can we out on the track again? Can we out on the track again? Can we out on the track again? Can we out on the track again? "
