I was just wondering how guys that show off their car pics(especially daily drivers) online keep their rotors so clean. I mean, it doesn't even have rust where the pads aren't contacting the rotors, where mine usually always has rust there, driving or not. I had some Brembo Blanks with some Metal Master Pads with only a few hundred miles on them on an old broken down car of mine just rusting away for about 2 months. Now I wanna put these rotors on another car of the same type, but wanna clean them up real good first. What you fellas use?

as I know it's very difficult. You must clean them every time you can.
If you have access to a lathe you can rectify your own discs. It's fun to drill them and waste some metal

unless Vadim-4DSC uses his car on the beach's sand... those discs have at least 3 years

I just got those rotors a few hundred miles ago. They are very new actually. So are the pads. Reason why they look so rusted up and old, is cause they stood outside on a broken car of mine rusting away for months till I got the chance to remove them. Now Im ready to put them on my new car, same type, but just wanna clean them up nicely before I put them on. What can I use?

particle blast them then machine them they will look amazing, also you can tape off the arears that contact the pads and paint the rest of the rotor with high-temp brake drum paint clear coat just the clear and then they will stay in pristine shape.

Hm, all right. Seems there really isn't any other way to clean that other then machining them. How about sandpaper or something? No good? Nothing I can buy at a parts store made for this kinda stuff?

I guess you can sandpaper the rust off but I'm not sure, never done it before. You should of taken them off and put some oil on them and put them in a plastic bag

I wish I could, but Im not in the best financial state right now. Plus these rotors are almost new, Im tellin you. Used for 200 miles tops, good quality brembo rotors. Im gonna try the sandpaper, I really don't got any other options. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to put them on as is. I still didn't get a proper feedback on how guys who show off their nice rotors keep them nice and rust free. Im pretty sure, they don't take them off every single time and machine them, ya know.

Just dont make the mistake I did with my first project car and buy a set of junkyard pre used rotors that ultimately rusted out the studs and came off at speed.

How are they shot? I just recently bought them.

edit: Rotors can't be shot, only calipers have that ability.

Uhm - what is everyone's obsession with "bling" brakes?

Brakes are for stopping - not "syling"... unless youare a 100% poser.

Rotors made of ironwill rust. Withing an hour of use they will show rust if wet. Go for a drive and the surface rust will be worn off.

If your iron rotors have an intergral hat that is unpainted, as metioned, scrub them with a steel brush and then spray paint the hats with high-temp paint.

I mean, you do want your brakes to stop you - correct? Or are they just styling statments like those pointless sneakers people keep buying?

What if your a 25% poser and a 75% person lookin for some mean stoppin power? Or what if, rust on your rotors is just irritating to you and you could care less what anyone thought about your brakes, but you just wanted to make them look as clean as your car. Everyone is a poser no matter who you are. Human nature. Just depands on how much you pose. But the fact that you want some nice solid lookin rotors and calipers lurkin beneath your wheels, is nothin wrong with that in my opinion.

im not gonna do jack to my civic.

i dont think styleing rotors has any meaning

unless u got to much time on ur hands. or the extra money. but wif dat money u can always do something better 2 ur carr.

Yeah man, styling rotors suck. But some nice 13inch rotors that can be clearly seen through the rims are pretty fancy in my opinion. Especially the fact that they can stop almost as a good as a stock Civic, is quite the jaw dropper. 8)

Wouldn't you want to stop better than a stock Civic?

I figured only a fully laden cement truck with 3 flat tyres and a dyslexic blind immigrant cab driver asleep behind the wheel would stop "almost as good as a stock Civic.." (i.e. sto slower" - being that the Civic is the 3nd slowest stoping vehicle in the universe.. only barely beating out the aforementioned slower cement truck --- and your car with soon to be upgraded brakes..
