If you look at all the older luxury cars such as Rolls Royces and Bentleys they all have exquisite names like that. Arnage, Azure, Continental, etc or Rolls Royces' Silver Ghost, Phantom, Silver Cloud, Silver Shadow, etc.

Cool cool names.

Fly Spur sounds really cool to me.

Damn Clarkson is SO FUCKING rude to James May on that show!! Even if you and he hate the car, I couldn’t believe how he just corrected James on his joke and walked away like he did. This is far from the first time. I like Clarkson but it seems like he does not like James at all and really treats him like shit on the show. I thought the James piece of the Bentley was well done even if you don’t like the car and JC was just an asshole about it.

Clarkson insulting every car maker under the sun is fine, but he should not do it to one of his own co-hosts!@!

P.S. Also I know there is a lot of lighthearted ribbing that goes on between them, like when he makes fun of Richards’s height etc. But the way he treats James sometimes seems to go way beyond lighthearted ribbing…

And about Clarkson. I think that the episode are pretty well scripted in advance, so they know what to say and when. I think those three presenters and chemistry between them is the very essence of Top Gear. James when Jeremy was sailing with the 8-wheeler:
"I'd give the rest my years salary to see that sink" LMAO
Oh yeah i get that, and again what James said on the 8-wheeler was right in there with the planned lighthearted ribbing and was probably scripted. But if you watch Jeremy’s reactions and the way he talks to James you see it goes way beyond planned. A good example is I have never seen anything similar in the way he “ribs” Richard. There is an underlying dislike Clarkson has for James I think that goes way beyond what they plan. The end of that Bently piece is a perfect example/

If anything some of those cheesy likens James says about Clarkson are an attempt to cover up the genuine dislike from Clarkson that shines through.

Yes, but to be perfectly honest there is a lot to dislike about that floppy haired, bumbling, monotonous idiot (granted many things to dislike about JC too)

If he can't offer anything to response to JC's jibes then he more than deserves the comments he gets. How on earth he was chosen as a presenter is beyond me..

Back to the topic however, I actually think the name is very nostalgic and conjures ideas of traditional British RR/Bentley days. What does annoy me is how it has been placed and mis-used on a car like the flying-spur.

Think the mix of hosts are great. Not that James is the most exciting to watch but not all people that watch car shows want to see burning rubber all the tiime. I really don't think there are any bad blood between JC and James. They are just very different and have different opinions about almost all cars. That's what makes it interesting. If they all felt the same thing about all cars it would just be boring. Clarkson is the type that's a little mean to everyone else, that's just his style even if he sometimes steps over the line slightly I don't think he means any harm.

With regards to JC and JM - they're all good mates. Along with Tom Ford from 5th Gear (he writes for Top Gear magazine, as does JC and JM), and even Tiff Needell. In fact, Tiff co-hosted the MPH04 car show (which is sponsored by Top Gear magazine) with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

Keep in mind that it is in Clarkson's personality to be a bit of a bully, while James prefers the "gentleman's" approach, hence the tendency to dodge JC's shots, and just ride with them. Whereas Richard is the little guy who won't be pushed around.

As with James being a presenter - he's actually a very good writer, and his columns and reviews on TG magazine rival Clarkson's, both in depth and in humour.

They're all a good bunch. I would go as far as to say that those guys are the best set of presenters Top Gear has ever had. I would seriously like to see a female presenter on Top Gear though... one with a wit to match the blokes.

I take it you went to MPH 04 as well (and judging by your pic you have) you can remember the constant digs going on between the two presenters - JC and Tiff - remember the jibes between 5th and top gear and trying to drop in the corporate plugs into the show?!

I doubt the name Flying spur is anything close to being as bad as some of the jap names ive heard of... i'll give you a breif list.

1stly the japanese alterations and uses of english words.....
Honda:
Integra
Insight
Concerto
Prelude

Toyota:
Supra
Aristo
Avensis
Celsior.... oh god thats a bad one
Cavalier
Emina... as apposed to a enema perhaps..
Corona .... yeah id love one thanks

Nissan:
Micra
Maxima
infiniti
Homy.... no comment
Nomad ... does it come with a goat?
Cefiro

Mitsubishi:
Solara
Delica
Magna
sigma
Mirage
Verada
Starion
Pajero... if pronounced correctly in spanish .. it means Wanker i think

Mazda:

Bongo
Familia
Parkway
Cosmo

Korean stuff..

Kia:
Mentor
Optima
Shuma
Spectra

as you can see the list goes on and on.. and i think my dad told me of a japanese car not sure which manufacturer called an emaroid... probably goes well with the Toyota Emina , For every Emaroid there must be an emina

as to James may, i actually quite like him even though he is a bit upper class, he does have some excelent comments.. i recently downloaded the 2004 muscle car challenge featuring the Australian Holden/Vauxhall Monaro.. his comment went along the lines of "Here I am doing 60 in top gear and the engine is turning over at 1500RPM.... 1500 .. its idling.... You Fat Ozzie Slacker!"

When you think about all the hosts to top gear and 5th gear, you've gotta love em all i think most would agree. All unique in personality, driving skills and taste

I am 99% sure the show has a written script, and they work it out to be like that

You mean when Clarkson said to Tiff:

"Tiff, look at all these people here (describing the packed Earl's court arena), this is probably the largest audience you've had all year!"

Classic!

Kia Spectre - standard issue to enemies of James Bond

China produced that 'Beauty Leopard' car which is the most ridiculous name I have heard.

One of the jap manufacturers named a car using a guys name. Nissan Cedric
