there's the old ring - the nordschfssfg (or whatever it's called 8) ) - the north loop.
and there's the new gp track. the old ring was indeed closed after Lauda's crash in 76. now it's open for the ublic, and that is where JC went.

the new gp track isn't very long. the old ring is the longest track in the world. that's why it takes forever to lap it.

There is quite a few races that are on the North loop.
I believe it's mostly club races, but there are a few big ones, such as the 1000km of Nurburgring.
go here for more info

There is also a 24hr race that runs on the Nordschleife, my dad went to it to see some of his compatriots at Ford run...i.e. Martin Leach and Richard Parry-Jones.

Theres some vintage races, some 4hour and 6hour races, and the big 24hour that my dad is involved in.

The way the timing and the track work is that the racecars are timed from the start-finish line all the way round, a VERY fast lap is 9 minutes. Road cars can be either from the start of the old course to the bridge on the main straight by Dottinger Hohe, or from the start of the old course to the end, depending on how that particular day is running.

-> phonetic written. But due to the fact that I don't really know to write phonetic, it could be written totally wrong
