Peugeot has announced that it will return to the 24 Heures du Mans in 2007. The return to the circuit of La Sarthe will be part of a tough challenge: to become the first manufacturer to win the world’s greatest endurance race with a diesel engine. Peugeot’s announcement today, Tuesday June 14 2005, that the last French marque to win at Le Mans (in 1992 and 1993) would be returning, revived thoughts of great battles between major car constructors. The news was welcomed by the organizers of the legendary race, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, as evidence of the long-standing reputation and the development of the 24 Heures du Mans. This excellent news is notable not only for the return of the great French manufacturer. Peugeot is setting out on an innovative path with great ambitions – to win the 24 Heures du Mans with a car powered by an HDi diesel engine equipped with a particle filter.
