increasing volume on vids

I have just downloaded a DVD and the sound is a bit quiet for my liking (it needs to be LOUD when Ferrari's are driving), is there any program which allows you to increase it?
I have Goldwave which does it but then only allows you to save it as an audio file and not the original .avi

Is it a rip or a DVD? if its a rip Virtual dub can do it if you select full processing mode for audio, quite easy if you have the right codecs. Just do a direct stream copy for the video. You need to know what the audio is now, the best tool for this is gspot (don't type into google you'll find rude stuff ) I would check that out first as personally i've had problems with 5 channel audio which tends to be quiet, so i would appreciate if anyone knows another method If your not familiar with virtual dub download it at doom9.org and i can give step by step if needed

If you're playing the DVD with software like PowerDVD, you can change the "dyanmic range" setting to normal or noisy environment. By compressing the dynamic range, DVD or DVD rips with AC3 audio will sound louder.

edit: forgot to mention, even when you're playing the ac3 dvdrip in WMP, it's still using the powerdvd decoder so the setting should work.

o.k it is easy to do in virtual dub then as it is mp3 audio . Simply open the file with virtual dub.
Select "direct stream copy" from the video tab. Then click Audio-> "Full Processing mode".
Now Select compression from the audio tab, and select MPEG Layer 3, you should see a number of different bitrates come up, select the same as your audio is i.e 96kb/s Also it is best to set it to the same frequency , you can find this out using the gspot tool i said about in my first post.

O.k so once all that is set, we can increase the volume, click audio-> Volume, Click the box to adjust volume of audio and just slide it along to a volume you think will be ok. Then just click File -> save as avi..... name it something though different in case it fucks up though LOL ( and i get the blame )

I forgot to mention the result in here yesterday - but it worked, even though there was no option to select 96khz in the bitrates I went with 56khz which was the highest one on offer, and it seems to be ok
Now I can listen to the glorious Ferrari noise how it should be - LOUD!!!!
