Major upgrade
Just to let you all know, if you dont hear from me for some time, it is because i am about to install a brand new motherboard (Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe) and a new processor (AMD Sempron 3000+)
Thanks to Thamar for help deciding where the cash was going to go.
I will try to get some benchmarks done when it is all up and running again.

well, the whole 64-bit system was going to be over my budget.
I amm speaking to you know from my old mobo with the new CPU, as when i tried to put both new parts in and boot up, it gets past all the bios screens saying everything is ok, you get the bios beep telling you is everthing is ok, and you even get a delightsul woman telling you everything is ok, and theat she will now load from the operating system, the screen goes black as per usual for about 4 seconds, and then there is a flicker of a blue screan of death,a nd ti restarts, the screan only comes up for about 1/4 of a second though, so i have no idea what is on it. Any suggestions?

im speaking to you know with the power of an Asus A7N8X-E DELUXE motherboard and a sempron 3000+! wooooot!!!
got hold of an XP disc today from a friend, and had a crack as soon as i got home, went without a hitch. Now, i think a minor amount of overclocking is in order

sempron 3000 has a 333bus ? just up it to 400 if you have pc3200 memories
Get the voltage a little more and it should go like a 4000

It depends on how often you buy a new PC, but overclocking will shorten its life, just like putting a supercharger or other major mods will shorten your car engine's life.
btw What kind of Video Card do you have?

an nvidia Fx5200 128mb - nothing fancy but it does the trick, im not doing anything hardcore when it comes to OC'ing anyway tweak the clock a litle bit, maybe squeeze a bit more voltage out of it. I could up it to 400, but thanks to me being a dickhead, i managed to buy a stick of DDR400 and a stick of DDR333!

depending on the voltage. When you overclock and the cpu runs at its original voltage, you don't shorten it's life.
|
ye i tried overlclocking my pathetic P3, hopeless.
Well i assume if you're going to overclock your CPU significantly your gonna have to increase the voltage.
Are you into OC ? (over-clocking not organized crime from the game Omerta ) Have you installed water cooling, i really hate PC noise so i'm not willing to install more fans.
