Heard rumors of a Maybach 53.
Anyone that have heard the same? I read it in some automagazine. Can´t remember where but it could have been Automotorsport.

Exactly what i was going to say!
what would be the point of a smaller maybach? Anything smaller will be a s class or the maybach marketing people are stupid.

There were idd some rumours about a smaller Maybach. But those rumours seemed not to be true some weeks later.

I also doubt that...However, something of that kind is going to appear - the new S-class.

I think they're doing it to try and revamp the Maybach name by adding a wider variety of cars. 57 and 62 didn't sell quite as well as expected, perhaps cuz they were too big.
The level of luxury tween a maybach and and S class should still be significantly different, even if the new maybach is a lil smaller.

S-Class not expensive enough for you? Here's the same car with a different name that will cost an additional arm and leg....

I also can´t see the point in a car thats just 40cm smaller then the 57 one. But yes, the Maybach has to be more luxurious than the S-Class, but with the new 7-Series-Style S-Class cockpit thats not too difficult

Maybe to take on the Continental Flying Spur? I wonder what Roll's plan of action is, if they will ever try to go 'down market' to the $150-200k range.

I think it's a good idea. But on the other hand, I realy have a problem with maybach looking too much like mercedes.........be unique for god's sake.
Sure, the car looks nice, but even a kid with little knowledge of cars, would look up and say: "Look daddy, what a nice Merc"

Or maybe they're too smart. put some luxury in an S class and put a much bigger tag on it!

Too be honest i really don´t like the S class interiour and i´ve seen spy shots of the new S class which i think looks like a bmw Z4 interiour. A Maybach 53 would be great because smaller makes it cheaper.
About the Bentley...i´m sorry but i don´t like the look of it, the front is uggly looking specially those headlamps. Looks like four hardboiled eggs and the grill have this "streetracing-net-look" so i woulnd´t buy a Bentley if i had the money.
Too bad because i think that the interiour is one of the best ever made in the Continental GT/VW Phaeton.

I'm not sure that it will detract potential buyers of the S-class.
I think that Merc know what they are doing. They wanted a coupe and a convertible on Maybach chassis, as an answer to RR and Bentley range. Then, if they have another chassis - why not use it? If someone wants the plush but prefers to drive his car himself on the weekend - then 53 is the answer. After all, there are many RR and Bentleys that are driven both by an owner and his driver (not at the same time )
Additionaly, this new chassis may serve the S-class.
BTW, a few days ago there was a rumor that M-B are stopping developing new car classes, so bye-bye baby SLR, and another evidence for my 53 theory
