I already saw some pics and I think I also have a short spyvideo at the ring... I can't wait to see the final shape.. but the RWD layout will make it my fav compact car for sure
But but... are you sure the sales will be stolen to VW and not to BMW's own 3-Series Compact?

This is going to be the ultimate hot hatch, imagine a possible M Power version.

The 3 series compact doesn't seem to sell very well in the first place. And any sensible man would have to choose this one over a Golf.
BTW I've seen the video too, but we're getting very close to it's release date (2004) now so that's why I wanted to post it ... Can't wait.

I hope to see it at Geneva 2004
As for the Compact, I guess Switzerland is the only Country where it always sold pretty well as far as I can see on the roads!
And as you said, every sensible driver would choose a RWD hatch over an FF one.. let's see the prices though.. and let's consider many women or scared men prefer a traction for snowy or wet conditions :-/

Damn I just realised... It will get it's premiere in Geneva. You're going to be the first JW member to see it live! Set up your camcorder!
And again BTW, the video I saw a few months ago was on the 8200rpm site. This one's new to me: http://bilder.autobild.de/video/BMW1_l.avi

Too bad the hatchback version is only available in europe. The north american market will get a sedan version. Not sure how they can pull that off, consider 3 series is kinda small already. But with their experience on the mini, the 1 series should be a pretty fun car to drive.

It seems too big.... I prefer VW Golf. The 5th generation is great, and the GTi is amazing!!

VW Golf over a BMW? Hmmm you prefer to drive a Wanna be German car, over BMW? Thats just crazy, and i think you deserve to die.

yeah right deth
plus usually the bmw is much much more expansive than the VW,
i'd still go for a Golf, cheap to modify, cheap to buy, and yet, hell alot of fun
