New STi and Skyline GT-R Due Soon An insider's estimation of the next generation November 2004 The illustration above, purloined by our man in Japan, is an insider's estimation of what the next Impreza WRX STi will look like. Although many of the characteristic features of the current car are carried over—hood scoop, aggressive fender flares, enormous wing—the rest of the car shares some styling elements with Subaru's new corporate face, exemplified by the B9 Scrambler concept car designed by Andreas Zapatinas and displayed on a pedestal at the 2003 Tokyo show. The front-end styling of the concept is shown here and is reportedly the face of future Subarus. A new Impreza WRX STi should hit Japanese roads in 2007 and ours soon after. The illustration below depicts the upcoming Nissan Skyline GT-R. The GT-R version of the Skyline has always been a special high-performance offering in Nissan's lineup, and this one will continue that tradition. The GT-R probably has the record for the number of car-mag stories about a vehicle that has never been available in the U.S., and it remains high on our wish list. Built on a new platform that is not shared with the standard-model Skyline, or Infiniti G35 coupe, as it's known stateside, it will likely make the GT-R far more expensive than run-of-the-mill G35 coupes. There are conflicting reports out of Japan regarding the powerplant. One camp believes the GT-R will be powered by a Cosworth-developed twin-turbo version of the current 3.5-liter V-6, offering at least 450 horsepower. Others believe a new twin-turbo 3.2-liter V-6 will get the call. To make sure the GT-R has supercar handling, chassis engineers from Lotus were selected to develop its steering, suspension, and drivetrain. Could this special Skyline so long denied to U.S. enthusiasts finally come to the States? "G35 GT-R" has a certain ring to it, but it's up to Nissan or Infiniti's product planners to decide whether it will come to our shores.

Car and Driver is pretty late...besided i wouldn't use the word soon...on the other hand the new GT-R is supposed to be more powerful than we all expect as Carlos Ghosn said he wanted it to be on the cutting-edge.

No one has said that in America in a long long time, it's usaly the other way around now, people say " I will never buy another American car, its japanese or german for me" They/We have been waiting for the Skyline since the R-32, longer for the die hard fans.

You're not entirely right. Top Gear is biased towards English-built cars, but not all English agree to that statement.

If you think people here would prefer a diesel S-type Jag to a diesel 5-series or a diesel E-class, then you're mistaken.

about the statement on selling the skyline here, their choice has NOTHING to do with how people want the skyline etc etc here in america, or how deservind we are of a car with only 450hp. Their decision is based off of wheather or not it will sell within the american market (what segement can they sell it in etc) if the numbers dont add up, there is no g35 gtr here or whatever.

bottom line g35 is a giant pos, and we probablly wont see the skyline, americans dont want a coupe for some reason (retards with too many children)

and sense the late 90's, jags were as much british as a toyota camry is japaneese.
