BMW X3...
Hiya ppl. Im interested in buying the BMW X3(most probable with the 3liter engine.). Does any of you has one? Or has any of you driven one? What have you heard about the model. From what ive read and heard, the X3 is an amazing car. It has superb on-road abilities and pretty good off-road.
What do you all guys think?

To be honest, I think the X3 should have never existed BMW already has a car that does what the X3 does, but better and with better style...
Why do you need such a car at such young age? Maybe you could find some better option now (better than the X3) and then go for an X5 later?

TT the X3 is not for me. My father wants to buy one. We wanted a SUV. But not a large one like the X5/Cayenne/Touareg. We wanted a smaller, more flexible, with good on and off abilities.

Ah ok, I guessed so.. so why you said "I am interested..."
The X3 is for sure a bit smaller than an X5, but not that much afterall... but I think I am biased.. of course the X3 is not a bad car.. it is just "wrong" to my eyes

The X5 is tiny compared to the cayenne and tourag. as its been said the x3 is only marginally smaller and for me personally id only ever get one with an areo kit because all that black plastic turns me right off. Go X5

Because its going to be a common decision.
Neilo63 the dimensions of the X5 are smaller from the Cayenne/Touareg but not much smaller... They all belong to the same big SUV category. Whereas the X3 is quite smaller thatn all of these monsters. As for the plastic bumpers, i dont like it either much, but as i already said the car is going to be used also in rough terrain, so it is necessary to remain unpainted...

You want a car that is good on, and off the road and are thinking of buying an X3? An X3 is exclusively for the road...
If you want a real thing for the road, and off... I would go for a Range Rover.

I think it is a good choice, but as bmwmpower said, I too would go for the 3.0d with an automatic. As for the styling, I really really like it I think it´s a more contemporary design as the X5´s.
We all know it may not have extreme off road ability, but I guess it´s gonna be more than enough for you.
Good luck and post pics if you do get it

The X3 is 5 cm shorter than the X5. That's nothing!
My advise would be to tell your father the truth: You don't need offroad abilities. Then you can buy a nice saloon instead! If you really need offroad abilities you should buy a offroad car, not a SUV.
...but that's just my normal antiSUV attitude.

My dads got an X5, its about the same size as a cayenne or touraeg, handles like a 5 series and is good off road - my dad uses it to take horses to polo tournaments and so has to go off road quite often but its main use is commuting which it does very well. As is said there isnt much difference between the X5 and X3 - the X5 looks better though and has slightly better off road capabilities.
I dont see the point of an X3 - if your looking at tht you should go for a 3/5 series.
IMO go for the X5 - good off road and superb road handling

If you need it for off road, get the new Land Rover Disco!
Take a look at the Tope gear archives!
