1955 Lemans crash killed 82...
Never something like that, not even a missile can inflict such damage.

Once in a while I see videos of the accident played, but I never really have read anything about the accident. It just goes to show you how dangerous the racing was back then. I know that racing is a risky sport, always has and always will; but back then the racing was really surpassing any kind of safety aspect. Safety belts weren't even used by even the F1 teams till the mid to late 1960's. God only knows what kind of tire technology they had back then. Really, tire development never really came in it's own till the late 60's.

Fortunately, the motor race learned lessons from this horrible accident. Today safety is largely improved, but we are never protected of a similar incident. I didn't know that the motor race was banished of Switzerland.
I hope for you pzgren that there will be some races in Switzerland soon.

Thats pretty bad. The most recent horrific crash i've seen is at the indy 500 where a car crashed and got some air and went into the fence spilling fuel all over the spectators.

I am always surprised at how little motoring enthusiasts know about motoring history...
Get out and read more guys..
These and other events are very well documented.
