Win XP User Profile Prob...a little help please :-)

Basically a while ago when i logged on to my computer it said it could not load my user profile and wiped all my settings , background and some icons disappeared etc... Not a problem i thought i'll just create another account cos the other one is corrupt. All was fine for several weeks then last night I shut my laptop down instead of hibenating it and the problem happened again. While its not a major problem i wondered if anyone had any idea what could cause this problem to happen? (Me know nothing )

u could try installin sp1 & sp2 if u already haven't and see if that fixes it, along with any other windows updates there are available

I think i'm up to date but i'll check...... *EDIT* looks like i don't have SP2 by the looks of it despite setting win update going the moment i got back online i assumed it would keep me up to date

Download Norton Ghost, and take a backup of the user settings, so if the problem happens again, you just recover all your settings, and it looks like normal

microsoft has temporarily disabled windowsupdate from automatically downloading sp2 because many businesses need to update their networks to handle it as it has a lot of compatability issues

run all the virus software/spyware software then...
de-frag the computer
run command first then ...

run: chkdsk
on the hdd in question
if problems exist you can
run: recover


any questions, in the command prompt just
run: help chkdsk
run: help recover
etc.
hope this helps, its time consuming
