Default Mercedes Vision B

Sep 13, 2004 – At the Paris Motor Show Mercedes-Benz is presenting two concepts showing their vision for large and mid-sized future-oriented 'Sports Tourers'. The European version of the 'Vision R' Grand Sports Tourer, previously displayed at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show, is further refined, and is joined by the new 'Vision B' Compact Sports Tourer. Mercedes-Benz is underlining the potential of this vehicle concept for a future model family, presumably a future 'R-class' and 'B-class'.

'Design, dynamism, dimensions' are the shared keywords for the Sports Tourers which make them individual and distinctive. The agressive wedge shape and striking front ends emphasise the muscular and active nature of the Sports Tourers, which are equipped with high-torque CDI diesel engines.

The idea of the Sports Tourer, which Mercedes-Benz first presented in 2002, combines the advantages of familiar vehicle concepts such as a sporty saloon, estate, van and SUV to create a new category in its own right.

In the Compact Sports Tourer 'Vision B' the engine and transmission are partly in front of and partly beneath the passenger cell – according to the sandwich principle – giving the car the interior spaciousness of larger vehicles despite its compact external dimensions.

The Compact Sports Tourer is powered by a new four-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 103 kW/140 hp and torque of 300 Nm. Fuel consumption is less than six litres per 100 kilometres and exhaust emissions at EU-4 levels.

To highlight the special nature of the Sports Tourer show cars, Mercedes-Benz is using a new type of exterior paint with a high-gloss metallic finish for the first time. This extremely high-luminance finish is the result of a newly developed process intended for series production.

Errr... not related to the topic, but are you actually aware that your avatar, and the car on the left half of your signature is actually a Lamborghini Murcielago, and NOT a McLaren?
