Help needed: THX codec?
Does anyone know of a codec called THX and where to get it? One of my housemates downloaded a movie with a .thx.avi extension. Playing the video results in nothing (not even sound, while his computer sees it as a 12 hours long soundfile).
Please, wizards of the virtual world, shed some light on this...

THX is a certfication from george lucas' ILM. Download GSpot from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to check what codec the avi needs for playback.

Thanks, I'll try VLC player. Who knows...
@ oldsnail: It's an AVI file, but it has the extension .thx.avi It's not DivX, Xvid or any other widely used codec.
Alien's answer seems highly likely, but it's strange Gspot said it's not a valid AVI. It could just as well be a corrupted file, I don't know.

If it really is a DivX file, it's possible that the file is incomplete. Try to open it in VitualDub or the DivX Player to see if they can recover the file. If it says THX, it's probably using AC3 audio. It doesn't hurt to try and play the file in media player classic
good luck!

We tried everything and nothing worked. It simply had to be corrupted. So my housemate deleted it.
Thanks for the quick responses though! I really appreciate it. Too bad it was all in vain.
