hmmm depends, we don't have a great variety here in cambridge, but i'm going to uni in london soon which has a great clubbing scene Only downside is the price, some cost upwards of £50 to get in which isnt really in my budget range

Well, I visit them a lot.
We have a great club-scene here in Belgium, so it's normal then.
Sometimes even drive 100km to go to one, even if there are 5 (maybe even more) within a 20km radius.
Saturdaynight mostly is clubbing time. Entrance is about 7-8€ for most of them, boose is more expensive then in a normal bar but I don't drink that much so don't care about it.

Only 2 things I hate are the bouncers begging for money when you leave
And that it's getting later and later each year. Few years ago when you arrived at midnight it was allready rather full. Now when you arrive before 1am there aren't that many people and it really starts at 2am. It ends at 7-8 in the morning. Funny coming home and your dad is allready awake to go to work :p
Your description very much fits the Munich club scene, I lived there during year 2000, as in nothing really happens much before midnight and it all carries on til 7/8am. Kunstpark Ost is the place to be in Muenchen. Sadly, I'm past all that now and have to concur with TT as to what is a good night out.

Funnily enough though, there is a nightclub near me (i.e. walking distance which in Texas means literally on your doorstep -everything is well spread out) called 'The Horsemans' yep you guessed it - the dress code really is Cowboy Hat and Boots, country music, and dollar a bottle beers on ladies night. Fan-tastic. Great laugh though, and the ladies are friendly

In defence of Texas, cos it's a lovely place really, if you drive 40 miles/65km to Dallas, it gets MUCH better!! Everything from "ritzy's" style clubs (the UK readers'll know what I mean) through to proper clubs with proper music and DJ's that can do more than fade in and out!!

Some clubs and most bars here don't have bouncers, but actual policemen doing bouncer duties. I've never seen any trouble, and that's probably the reason why.

Costs are between $5 (Fort Worth) and up to about $20 (the Dallas clubs)

I'm not a club kind of person and probably won't be once I can drink either. We always hang out on a Saturday and just go to a Movie like TT said and get something to eat and then usually end up back at my house or sometimes someone elses and I will sit and be on here pathetically (My computer is always on and 80% of the time on this site even if I'm not home) while talking to them and watching movies whatever till about 1am and then everyone usually goes home. Sometimes we will go Downtown and walk around and go shopping on Michigan and stuff like that, maybe to Navy Pier (for people familiar with Chicago).

There are some bouncers in the uk which are proper twats, don't have any respect or anything. I think having police at the doors instead of bouncers is probably a good idea although i doubt it will ever happen in the UK with our already stretched out force. All pubs in the UK have to stop serving drinks at 11 and close soon after and clubs at 2. This has been causing loads of problems with drunken brawling etc as theres loads of people on the streets all at once at 11 and 2. They're considering allowing pubs 24 hour opening times and clubs similar options which should reduce this and will be much better for clubbers.... can't wait

Woah... well i go out quite a lot and i don't really like to drink, so i don't get wasted and have a massive hangover... only 4-5 drinks for me in one night.
There are loads of people who get trashed, and start getting violent, so i prefer to be tucked up in bed by 1-2AM

When i was younger, kids used to hang around on the street drinking cheap cider 'cos they thought it was cool.. i stayed away from them

Also.. i live near Manchester and have been out in some of the places gis has mentioned... they are nothing compared to London clubs. You get to hang out with all the celebs, tho i have only been out in London a few times It's a bit wild though, with drugs going round free etc, and i am glad to say i have never taken any drug apart from alcohol and cannabis (a few times, not a regular dope-head) 8) .. not bad, considering the problem that i have heard of amongst people my age in the UK.

i live about 10 minutes walk from the club central of Australia - surfers paradise. There's getting some diversity now; there's the ritzy clubs to piano bars to sport bars and the like. Only problem with being so multi-cultural is that there is such a diversity of a race and it can lead to some pretty major brawls. Clubs go through to 5 am, and it seems once the clock strikes midnight, the drugs come out and it's when things get a lil sketch.
We have some wicked lounge bars though - the type of club which is laid back, you can be eating in one place and throwing a couple down, just chillin and having fun, and on the otherside there is the dj for those wanting to get a groove on. since they're a little more sophisticated and glamorous, you don't tend to get as many freaks come through, so these are my #1 pick
