MAC's vs. Everything else

I am using a friends powerbook right now and I'm about to get a new laptop...I was going to get a Dell 9100..but after using this laptop its making me wonder. It looks great! I was wondering if someone who knows more about computers than I do could tell me more about the pros and cons of getting an Imac...I do some video editing..and so I know that an Imac would be good for that..but as far as processor speeds are concerned it seems that anything with a pentium would be the better way to go because of its multi-tasking abilitiies and overall claimed speeds. anyways I would love to know what yall think..Thanks!

i have never used a imac but i think the pentium r better cause they r easier to use with everything and more common, i have a vaio and it works good, im having some problems right now but im just going to format it and wverything will b normal (i hope). and it has always worked good, not like the compaq i had b4, so what ever u do dont buy compaq or hp, they r cheap and appear to b good but they r cheap 4 a reason...
but i recomend u to use some friends computers or something so u r sure, and about the dells, i have heard bad stuff about them...

iMac Powerbook? there isn't such a computer they have G4 Powerbook or iBooks but not an iMac Powerbook which is it? I'm considering the new G4 Powerbook myself it's an amazing computer. You don't want a laptop for video editing though because the battery will drain like none other and it will get pretty damn hot especially the Titanium Powerbooks. Unless you get a Desktop replacement Laptop it's pointless for video editing and Mac's are hands down better for Video Editing on the consumer level. iMac's suck though they are cheap ugly things. If you want an amazing video editing powerhouse get a dual processor G5 they are expensive but damn nice.

I dont like mac's period. My experiances with them at school were not that great, and I dont see were all the hype about macs is coming from. I had problems running photoshop along with flash and dreamweaver, constant memory overloads and slow ass proccesing speeds. On my PC I can run 10 programs without any problems.

YOu cant overclock, you cant do anything. You have no freedom with macs. The number of software is very limited and I dont know how they manage to stay in business.

they stay in business because they sell those crappy ass eMacs to schools by the truck loads and then make the awesome stuff like the Powermac G5's and Powerbook G4's I'm sure that's not what you used at school was it? yes they have crappy low end computers but that's just it it's lowend don't expect too much from a Highschool (i'm guessing by your age) Mac go try out a G5 dual processor and then tell me the thing stops working and considering Photoshop CS was developed on a G5 it works really well on it. they aren't made to overclock they are made for companies to have a very stable computer capable of any type of editing.

Hi DMbaseball1604, I use Macs on a daily basis and the only problem I had with em is the availability of games. Everything else is fine. Check out http://www.apple.com/switch/ for answers to your migration questions.

I think SFDMALEX was using those crappy OS9 Macs. Thank God for OS X.

I still doubt that if I make the fastest PC possible that there will be a mac to match. Plus the prices of the decent mac are pretty high.

even being a myth IMACS are not better than the new Pentium 4 HT Extreme...i would like to have an IMAC, of course, it´s a great computer even being a closed system and having few hardware/software compatibility, but my choice would be a brand new Pentium 4 HT Extreme 3.4 Ghz...this is awesome man ...really fucks with all ...my friend has one and i was just scared when i´ve got to use it and play games on it

Don't get an iMac now. At least wait until after Aug 31, or after the Paris expo. Apple has publicly announce for the first time in advance that they'll release a new update to the iMac line.

well you can't even order one online anymore unless it's preconfigured they have about a weeks worth of stock left then they are all gone till September.
