Mercedes SLR in Sport Auto Supertest
For those of you who usually don't buy german car magazines, here the results of the latest supertest, in response to the latest lap records in Top Gear:
Mercedes SLR McLaren (Carrera GT)
Nürburgring Nordschleife laptime: 7.52min (7.40min at a slightly wet day)
Hockenheimring laptime: 1.13,5min (1.08,6min)
0-200-0km/h: 15.8s (15s)
downforce at 200km/h: F 19kg R 35 (F 49kg R 40kg)
maximum lateral g: 1.25g (1.35g)
Slalom (36m distance): 129km/h (135km/h)
110m dodging test: 152km/h (157km/h)
Actually, the SLR'S laptimes aren't very impressive IMO - a Porsche GT2 runs a 1.11,9 on Hockenheim, even a GT3 ran a 7.54 on the Nordschleife, and the GT3 RS - 7.47...

I think it's pretty obvious the SLR is not a real racer. IMO it's the ultimate grand tourer.

Yeah. I was dissapointed as well. The Carrera achieving 7:40 and the Zonda acheveing 7:44. I hear that Walter Rohrl got a 7:35 on the Nurburgring.
As this shows.

Some say its Fast Some Say its pretty , i think its just a pretty car not really meant to contend but to make a decent showing. Can definitly love the mclaren rooted styling in the over all layout of the car with the classic benz style just barley popping its head out i think its a step in the right direction seeing as though most of thier cars on the road are a disgusting eyesore, sop this is a pleasant suprise but for performance purposes , Drop the amenities from the car to lighten it up and im sure once the usless eye candy is removed the car will probobly perform a little better, but thats not why you buy a benz now is it ? 8)

Erm, It looks just like a mercedes!
Not enough mclaren influence in my opinion. If you want the ultimate GT car, get a 550 marranello or two?!

SLR is designed to be the ultimate grand tourer were the Carrera GT is a full blown race car with 2 seats. Lets not forget that the Carrera GT has Le Mans winning DNA built in.
