getting a speed ticket

I just got a speed ticket today :cry: , I'm very very pissed off about it, the police said I was speeding on a 55 mph road with wet surface, and I was doing 72. but the road was dry and this is how fast everyone drives on highways? :x I really think I'm a victim of the quota, I can't afford to have my insurance any higher, I am gonna fight the ticket, anyone have any experiences or advice, please tell me,thanks

i think you are outta luck on the fight, buddy. 17 over is rarely allowed by radar guns.

yea but who really goes 9 over with a 55 mph limit on a highway when there is no car on the road? that limit is from the 60's they have to renew that, the more I think about what happened the more I get pissed, but thanks for the encouragement

does seem kinda stupid a 55mph limit to me, I don't know the conditions but over here most people srive on the motorway in quite safely with little chance of being stopped by the police (only cameras ) at 80mph+ brakes have improved so much these days meaning the stopping distances given in the highway code a hugely inaccurate for new cars. But its the amount you go over the speed limit you are getting punished for if i went 17mph over the limit in say a 50 limit over here i would expect to get a ticket and be punished to be honest

The difference is that here in the USA, there are no seperate Traffic Police.

That means the guy doing the traffic stop, is the same cop that may go to a bank robbery or gang shootout or home invasion - in other words - a tough cop with a gun and reason to use it...

I used to speed with impudance in South Africa as I (and many friends) viewed traffic cops with contempt... and not really as empowered real police... but out here I take all reasonable precautions to NOT get caught...

I wonder what would happen over there if you all just drove in a steady queue at say 70 mph, nah on second thoughts after seeing american cop shows they'd probably have a road block and about a 100 armed cops but seriously the reason nobody gets stopped apart from the cops being replaced by speed cameras is that the culture is to do 80mph+ even my driving instructor told me to speed on dual carriageway theres simply to many to stop them all!!!

Oh i didn't know that i thought they were all still stupidly low, never mind still at least you have police on the roads still we seem to be losing all ours to being replaced by cameras!!

Well, for me that would be an 88 KM/h limit and you were doing 115.2 km/h = 27.2 km/h over. If I was doing 127 in an 100 (which I often do), AND GOT CAUGHT...I wouldn't have an excuse. What can you do?

Yeah, generally you have a 20km/h limit on highways here in Canada, and a 10-15km/h limit on regular roads... Anything over is pretty fare game for being caught. Its not really the end of the month tho, so i dunno about a quota having to be met yet....

wow when i read about the speed limits u have in the US or the UK and how police r so strict about it i thank god that it's not the same here. i mean the limit in the highway is 70mph here but i always do 85 and sometimes 100 and thank god i never got caught (yet :roll: ) . there was this time when i was at 85 and i saw a police car behind me and i thought oh man, i'm getting a speed ticket but then i saw the police man signaling to me with his headlights then i turned into an other lane then it appeared that he was signaling me to move over not to stop me coz he wants to hit the gas lool

Yeah, in general the rule is (+) or (-) 10 mph. However, if you go to court, you can get the speeding ticket changed from speeding to a parking violation...or 5. My father did that a few months ago, and it doesn't raise insurance, but your ticket wil cost you more. Just go to court, and almost always good things come out.
