Default Cheapest car to break 12s for 1/4 mile barrier.

I would like some reasoning and good sources debate. Im choosing 12s because in my opinion, it is a decent, fast and respectable time in the 1/4 mile. I would like to know the cheapest possible car & setup YOU think can hit 12s. Car can be street legal/illegal. The price includes the cost of the car and the mods (if any). Decent looking beast too..hehe!! And give ur reason too!!

I dont own a car yet (sniff sniff) but saving up for one..!! hehe

Let the debate begin!!!!

Tune a little Corsa or something ?
the cheapest I could think is a Ford GT: it costs about 100.000 pounds, = €150.000 = 150.000$ if i'm right...

Well... That would be a DSM Talon. A boost controller, 3" exhaust, maybe increase the boost, and there you are.

I say a VL Turbo. Then get it modified by Nizpro and it will run 11s.

A VL Turbo is a 1986 Holden Commodore with a turbocharged RB30 just incase you didn't know.

VL Commodore..Pick it up Calais for 7 grand,10 more grand gets you 350bhp Monster doing high 12s,With Rb30et unless you swap the engine over to another Nissan engine...But sadly its a car that is only in Australia and New Zealand.....Alot Cheaper than a Civic.....

Why modify? The Z06 is a 12s car out of the box... as will a F550 and a 996TT...

I love these types of topics... they are utter bullshit... all benchracer talk...

Let's SEE some PROOF of these "Only takes $300 and a can of oil to go 11s" cars.

If all it takes is a DSM and $250 in Wal-Mart money to run 11s - how come these 11 and 12s cars are not lined up 6 deep at the drag strip every night?

And when the quesiton is "cheapest" - does that mean cheapest TOTAL price for car and mods, or just mods - or just car? And private party cost? Or dealer "in house" cost?

Parts and labour add up real quick - and often times the REAL cost of the cars that tuning shops produce for bragging rights have 10's of thousands of dollars of work done on them - but they will only quote 3 major components as "needed to run at this speed"....

LOL - - really funny topic.

you can definitely take a civic and add a t3 or t4 turbo on to it, exhaust, intercooler, then strip everything out to barebone, nitrous will cost you like 1 g, i think that will sum up to around 10 to 15 gs...

because there weren't a lot of turbo models sold, and not everybody who bought them modified them. i don't know how accurate the figure actually is, but i've heard that only ~10% of the ones sold were the turbo models. and not all of them were modded. the new non-turbo V6 models are selling WAY better than the old turbo models.

Fine - so other that in 2F2F - where exactly are all these cars?

People WAY UNDER estimate the REAL TOTAL cost of modifying cars to this extent.... way under estimate....

I'm with RC, Modifying can get REALLY expensive. With the money that you sink into a beater car to get it to run low times, you can just buy something like a Z06 that will run those same times stock all day long, and you'll still have the street legal and reliability factors well in check.

My car runs 11's, but it wasn't cheap to get it there.
