Default McLaren SLR

What do you guys think about the McLaren SLR?
After watching the Clarkson review that was just posted by Jabba (thanks) it confirmed to me my dislike for its looks and sound. I think you obviously have to respect the performance of such a car, but compared to other supercars I don't think it compares in the looks or sound department. Thats just my opinion though, I'm sure many will disagree.

I'm not too keen on the cars nose...looks a bit ugly.Bat the ass is fine, especially when the rear spoiler goes up. And the sound IMO is fantastic. Maybe not as cool as a Lambo V12, but it has a nice low rumble. Quite 'original' for a supercar...

I haven't seen the Top Gear video,
But here are my thoughts:

Fantastic car. Looks, at first i didn't like the looks.
I saw it as an overdone Mercedes. The nose being too
long and the back overdone . But over the last few
months, it' grown on me. It's now one of my favorite cars.
It has a fanastic V8, Supercharged V8! 612BHP(617?)
575 ft-lbs of torque! What a car! I love the rear spoiler
that popus, the doors that go up and foward, the carbon
cermanic brake discs. I wasn't keen with the automatic transmission
But i like the idea know. The car always has lots of things you would
get in luxury cars. Power windows, AC, heater, stereo, powerseats,
knee airbags and front, etc. The sound? FanF*ckingtastic!

I am not a big fan of the SLR. To me it just seems like a really fast SL55 that costs 400k. I am sure that the new SL65 will be close to it in performance an will probably cost about half of what the SLR does. It is way to expensive for what it is. I think the only people who would buy one are people who love Merks because you could get a carrera gt for the same price and I would much rather have that!! Of course that is just my opinion

I would have thought that Gordon Murry was going to make something as unique as the Macca. I mean the car is very nice, and it sounds amazing, but the looks aren't that great IMO and it doesnt seem that it is meant for the track like the F1 is.

TBH I'm surprised that mclaren have allowed their name to be associated with this car..

its ugly !
its automatic !
the brakes are lame (bad/no pedal feel)

ok, on the ugly side I guess that is down to personal taste so I can't slate them for that, but come on.. who the heck wants an automatic supercar, and what the hell is with the brakes, I can't believe that experienced motoring journos are saying that they have no feel and are very on/off.. it just doesnt sound like the kind of thing a F1 team would be doing ???
so don't these 'faults' defy the whole point, supercars are about the driving experience, and an important part of that is controlling the car :-/

One question, with just 60+ posts, how did you download it? Or did you watch it on Television.

Either way, the SLR is an over-engineered car... the air-brake is ugly and looks ridiculous. The rest of the car's styling is unreal... the performance is so rapid, you can't hate this car. I love it, though i would have the McLaren F1 or Enzo over it anyday

It made a new dimension in the "Supercar market"..... 8)

I think its unique with the 5speed auto.!!!

I liked it till Mercedes introduced the SL65 AMG...which has almost the same

performance for less money...

I've learned to like the style, but the engine just doesn't have that Aston Martin, or Ferrari, or even the Infiniti G35 engine in it. Nice try Merc, but you really need to work out that sound, and the styling.

What a waste of time, money, expense and branding. This thing will be forgotten shortly.

Of course, with the SL55, SL65 and SLR - I could easily confuse all three as being the same. Just buy an SL55, save yourself $400k, and don't waste your time. Oh, and if you really want SLR performance, spend another 100k. It'll be more exclusive too!

DanV6: Don't forget the substantial investments MB has made into TAG-McLaren. Look at the change of ownership percentages. Clearly they have a say nowadays, whether or not Mr. Murray likes it.

Its just a fast car , by no means sporty , its an automatic car , and the brakes turn on within 10 brakes , rubbish

No, I downloaded it from this site. It was posted in another thread (in the requests section) for a short time before it was moved to the Vault, and I was lucky enough to d/l it before it got moved.
